Right idea, great concept, poor planning and execution

Got mine from kirinhobby just recently. Definitely seeing the same problems that everyone else was observing, such as the right side of her shirt not closing all the way (can't do anything about it, but I'm displaying her without a shirt) and that towel of hers being really damn hard to place on her (not broken, but just annoying).

I'm a bit of a DIY-er so I fixed a few issues I had on mine. I used super glue on her hat where it attaches to her head and let it cure before placing it on her to make the hole smaller, and allow a tighter fit. You can reference mikatan.goodsmi... for an idea of what I mean.

As for her umbrella rod leaving a black smudge, I really didn't want that happening, so I ended up just replacing the rod with a bamboo skewer instead (you can even use bamboo take-out chopsticks). I trimmed it to size with a craft knife and then sanded it down to smooth it out. Then I applied metallic silver paint and then a topcoat to seal it in and prevent paint transfer and smudges.

Got mine and I can say that while there are some quality control issues, this is nowhere near prize quality. Mileage seems to vary with this one, here’s my observations:

- The seam on the right of the shirt (her right) don’t quite close. Luckily this isn’t the side you’ll see when displaying her most of the time but there’s a gap, albeit not a huge one. She does look VERY nice with the shirt on if you aren’t getting super close and discerning with your viewing! She looks nice without the shirt on, too (duh).

- The umbrella rod is a little bent, but it bends into a straight line with a little bit of pressure, the rod itself doesn’t feel particularly flimsy

- The hat definitely sits real loose. Unlike some other folks, the regular ears feel pretty secure to me!

- The towel is awkward to place, but I didn’t really see a problem with it being hard to keep together, for me the pegs were quite secure

- The tail is fantastic, as is the swim ring

- I did see a bit of that odd black film rub off onto her hand from the pole, but it’s a small smudge and it doesn’t seem to smudge onto anything else that I tried

All in all the body sculpt is killer, and I’d say it’s overall worth the OG price or a little lower. Definitely wouldn’t recommend buying if you find it higher than market price, though.

Unsure if I'd like to buy this figure or not. Too many different issues, but might consider it if I can find her for a decently cheap price. Definitely not worth the after market price.

After much anticipation, she finally arrived. I really love this figure, but god damn I’ve never been so frustrated trying to assemble something.

- Her shirt is completely detached on her right side with no chance of it even getting close to closed.

- The only way I could get the scarf to display in one piece is to have it resting uncomfortably above where the grooves were meant to rest.

- Her normal ears are not very secure and will easily fall off.

- Her hat barely attaches to the pegs enough to stay on her head securely. The slightest nudge knocks it loose.

- The parasol rod has some strange film on it and feels rough to the touch and won’t wipe off. It also leaves a hideous black smudge on anything it touches. Her hand now looks like she’s been cleaning a chimney or something. Great!

- The parasol doesn’t even fit in her hand, with or without the support stand. Without the stand, it just kinda dangles there and would probably wedge itself out of her fingers eventually if left alone. When trying to use the support stand the end of the rod is a solid 2.5” away from the peg, rendering it completely useless. I’m not going to try to force it because her hand will probably break off, which leads me to...

- She has a GOD AWFUL SEAM in her wrist that seems not only unnecessary, but they didn’t even attempt to hide it. It’s just hand glued onto a nub with a bracelet.

Again, I love this figure and I’m glad to finally have her, but I’m seriously disappointed in the design. Shit like this makes me consider giving up on Koto...

Just got mine and I don't know what to say. I think prize figures hold a higher standard than this. Stuff like this is why I don't buy from Kotobukiya anymore. This figure was made in 2017 and is a disaster. The pegs on the shirt are among the worst I've ever seen. Even after using a hair dryer and trying hot water, I couldn't get the shirt to look even remotely presentable. The additional stand for the parasol snapped in half while I got it out of the bag, and superglue isn't really cutting it here. Getting the parasol into her hand is difficult too. And as if that was not enough, there is no way the towel is ever staying together unless you super glue it or never touch the statue again. I can't believe this got through any form of quality control. I'm convinced they never even once tried to assemble one of the production models. I am highly contemplating reaching out to TOM and seeing if I can get a full refund on this. Excellent sculpt wasted.
