Radnar4 d. temu#83702900That's a big assumption right there. Not everyone on this site is a "hardcore" collector and even for those that are, trying to keep sharp eyes on everything you're interested in over multiple sites can turn an enjoyable hobby into a joyless "second job" that loses you money.
All assumptions aside, putting the "blame" for the situation on the would-be-buyer rather than scalpers is... not a great take.
Yes, that statement is an assumption, but in this hobby it seems more like a universally accepted social norm, because if you wanted something so bad you’d actually make the effort to hunt for a good deal - hardcore collector or not. That is how working-class humans manage their limited resources.

If you couldn’t find what you’re after, or you just didn’t bother, then bad luck, you have to deal with the aftermarket and there are no excuses if you had chances in the past to acquire it for less than what the scalped prices are. There is no reason to be moping about scalpers when the would-be-buyer are in part to blame.

aldybee4 d. temu#83702640As I said previously, any hardcore/keen collector would be keeping eyes open on as many channels as possible i.e. YAJ, Mandarake, MFC, eBay, Amazon, trusted vendors, international sellers and vendors. That's a big assumption right there. aldybee4 d. temu#83702686My point still stands so I don't know why you're trying to argue with me. Don't complain about scalpers and resellers when you could've gone out of your way to acquire a figurine at a price suitable for you - ideally for less than what the scalpers are charging. All assumptions aside, putting the "blame" for the situation on the would-be-buyer rather than scalpers is... not a great take.

You're assuming that though.
darkroseblast4 d. temu#83702682And it seems they weren't content with paying for added proxy fees and expensive shipping (relative to buying locally). Thanks for agreeing with me.
Thanks for making this point uncontested:
aldybeeYou've essentially gone out of your way to create your own convenient assumptions which try to excuse this person's negligence in acquiring said collectible. A flawed argument

You're completely missing the point. It's safe to assume that any collector in their right mind would be going through as many channels as possible to acquire whatever it is they want at a price they're content with paying. You've essentially gone out of your way to create your own convenient assumptions which try to excuse this person's negligence in acquiring said collectible. A flawed argument:

Where is your evidence for this?
darkroseblastMany people don't have collector friends

I went through these expenses, though, and it came out cheaper than buying it from a reseller.
darkroseblastdon't want to go through the expense of proxy, international shipping, and custom fees

Yet another convenient assumption.
darkroseblastthey probably don't keep track of re-stocks in stores from a different country
As I said previously, any hardcore/keen collector would be keeping eyes open on as many channels as possible i.e. YAJ, Mandarake, MFC, eBay, Amazon, trusted vendors, international sellers and vendors.

Like, what exactly is the point you're trying to make?

aldybee5 d. temu#83653868You’re forgetting that proxy shipping exists. And if proxying a single nendoroid is too much for you, then you could also find a friend that also wants her and split shipping. This is what I did so I don’t see the problem here. Many people don't have collector friends and/or don't want to go through the expense of proxy, international shipping, and custom fees. And U.S. international shipping rates aren't like Japan's, they're much more expensive. When they said they wished for a re-run, I'm sure they meant an international re-release so that ordering would be more accessible. Although since this was Wonfes limited, another international re-run is very unlikely.

Also on my own assumption that they may not be from NA, they probably don't keep track of re-stocks in stores from a different country. Like I honestly don't keep tabs on European shops for Nendoroids that I'm in search of, and even if I found one over there, there's a low chance I'd proxy it because of the additional fees and shipping.

aldybee5 d. temu#83649491Or you could have just bought her re-run when she was still in stock at Good Smile US. It’s crazy how people are quick to shift the blame onto the scalpers when in reality the ones at fault are those that didn’t capitalise on a preorder or sale at the RRP.You're assuming that person is from North America.
