Info taken from the Kickstarter project for the anime Under the Dog:

Well just finished this and it could've been so great but alas time shortages. I did like it for what it was, a purely fan driven piece of art and seeing my name in the credits was so freaking cool. Don't think I'll be picking her up but I'm still curious as to seeing what she will turn out to be.

Ya ya, cool.

Also, sounds like fair reasoning as to their pricing ideas. I never thought it would go retail anywho, since it'd either be too pricey.. or undercut the supporters of the Kickstarter.. but! I am glad this is still in the works, and hope it's worth the money. >.<' lol

Hitokiri_Ace4 l. temu#5214418Cancelled? Where did you see that?Since this listing was for the retail version, it's been marked as cancelled (as they won't be selling it through any retail channels). The production run will be quite small, so it's going to cost a lot more per figure. Hence they decided to only sell to their Kickstarter/Paypal backers directly, at $200 or as part of the $500 backer tier. See the variant listing ITEM #239911 which they will be producing.

Here's my guess as to their reasoning:
Selling through retail would mean they would get half as much of the retail price, as the distributors & retailers take their cut. (But simply marking up the price to $300~$400 for a 1/8th scale figure wouldn't sell.) They could try selling it at a cheaper price through retail to increase the production run. But even $150 would be a tough sell. And at that point, they'll probably only get half of that after the distributors' & retailers' cut.

So for example (entirely made-up costs), instead of say:
$200/figure - $80/figure production cost = $120 funding for anime production,
They might only get:
$150/figure - $75/figure retailers/distributors cut - $40/figure production cost = $35 funding for anime production.

That would require selling more than 3 times as many figures to get the same funding, which could be risky. As the point of this figure is to provide funding for the production of the Under the Dog anime, I think they chose the best, safest option.
