Bootleg Finders
This club is dedicated to finding bootlegs and preventing people from buying them. What's a bootleg? Broadly speaking, it refers to any item/media/etc. that is reproduced and sold without licensing or taxation; it is an illegal business! Many places sell bootleg figures and media because they are cheap to reproduce and have a bigger profit turnover. Sellers take advantage of both new and old collectors alike with this business. The goal of this club is to educate and prevent members of My Figure Collection from falling for bootlegs.

If you find products you think are bootlegged, are not properly marked in our database, or aren't linked here please post or let a MOD or ADM know so we can change it.

For an ongoing list of Ebay bootleg sellers please check this thread: club/139/discus...

Some common signs of bootlegs and a bootleg seller:

• Price too good to be true (e.g. $40 USD for a figure that normally retails for $100-$150 USD)
• Shiny, fake plastic looking skin or parts
• Noticeable seams, details seem to be missing, parts may not be molded correctly, eyes look different than original figure
• Lack of a holographic sticker (may or may not be true, some official products lack official stickers as well)
• Jointed figures (Nendoroid, Figmas, Figuarts...) may appear loose or like they're about to fall apart
• Seller lists other known bootleg products or other large amounts of cheap merchandise (jewelry, electronics, etc.)
• Seller's username is a combination of random letters/numbers (e.g. 1327198, xmg50427867-4)
• Listing does not state the company or that the figure is legitimate. They may use phrasing such as "China version, China original, China homegrown product", terms such as "new PVC statue, PVC figure, 100% High Quality Brand New", or nothing at all

Odd question, but does anyone have any experience with Walmart Marketplace? Not exactly known for their stock of anime goods, but they did start a pseudo amazon type service for small businesses to sell stuff through their website, and figures/character goods will pop up with some regularity. I'm curious since it gets so much less attention (and thus scrutiny) than amazon or ebay.

soundlinked (1 mies. temu) #49490160I have a question regarding buying figures off Amazon. How likely could it be a bootleg if the listing says the company name as well. (e.g. Alter / SEGA) I'm asking since I am interested in buying this: www.amazon.com/...
But I'm just not sure if I should. I mean it is priced similarly to buying off the MFC partners, it's just that the free shipping is tempting.
It could very well be real. The price seems alright. If it's overpriced that's a good sign, but no guarantee of course. Check the sellers other items feed back and pictures. There are so many shops that only sell authentic the need for Amazon is obsolete. order.mandarake... she's here on Manda for cheaper.

NewHarvest (1 mies. temu) #49392746Can anyone tell me if there is a bootleg for figure ITEM #289034 ? I didn't see one listed but I found a seller on Ebay selling her for a nice price. I'm just a little sketchy about Ebay.
I've never seen one personally -- she's a prize figure and usually those don't get bootlegs. That being said, her being a prize figure will also lead to a cheaper price vs scales (unless she's more vauluable or highly sought after).

Check her details: is the seller located in Japan? Does it specify she is a Sega figure? Does the seller guarantee authenticity? If not, it's possible she may be a bootleg, but it's hard to tell without seeing the ad itself. Another thing to keep in mind is if it's an auction vs buy it now listing; I've found that quite a few legit JP sellers often do crazy cheap auctions for prize figures and other goods.

Seller: deadlychaser

www.ebay.com/us...

Pictures were blurry and small so I asked him if the figures were authentic from Japan. No boxes but I won them cheap during auction so I went ahead with it. Bought 5 figures. Received all 5 today. Every single one of them is fake.

Wanted some help b/c I've been searching for this model by 1000toys and this seller on Amazon is selling it for $77. The retail of it (shipping included) was $150, Amazon has free shipping. This seller seems to have mixed reviews with their body kun/chans and is based in China. So I'm a bit wary that it might be a bootleg... I'm not sure if they're even covered by Amazon either. I'd appreciate the help!

Hey I just wanted to let you guys know that there's a company claiming to have Japanese import products from Kotobukiya on Amazon, called COLLECT TOYS. The first issue I saw with them is that they are selling their bootleg for the same price as official figures, even a bit more in some cases. For example, they are selling Steins;Gate: Kurisu Makise PVC figures for $108 alone.

Platinum (3 mies. temu) #44803669I've never heard of, seen pictures of, or read any review that mentions an alternative face. Mandarake is a reliable store/chain that specialises in secondhand goods, so I wouldn't worry about it being a bootleg unless you're super unlucky (they only sell genuine stuff unless someone made a mistake). Everything in your pictures seems to add up, though you don't really show any good pics of the figure itself -- unless your figure looks off (ex. low quality), I highly doubt you have a bootleg.

I don't think so either. I just got really confused because the people on this page were adamant about it, and I'm just not sure if I've made this huge mistake or something.
Here's a little album of some pics I snapped of her (still with her plastic on since I have to transport her home from Japan in two months and want to make sure she's as well packaged as possible) and she looks completely fine to me?

Minaginagi (3 mies. temu) #44800594Hi there, I'm writing here to ask because the group that I wrote to in confusion became a real dick about it. I recently purchased the Tony Megurine Luka figure from Max Factory in Mandarake in Akihabara a few months ago. The figure comes in original box (I'll attach some pictures) and has a verification sticker and everything.
However, the people in this group are claiming that the figure comes with two interchangeable faces. My version of this figure doesn't. So I immediately went to the Goodsmile product page and the mfc page, and could not locate any information about a second face. Is there anyone who can help me verify whether I have a bootleg or not?
(I've uploaded them to my page so hopefully here's a link)
