Bootleg Finders
This club is dedicated to finding bootlegs and preventing people from buying them. What's a bootleg? Broadly speaking, it refers to any item/media/etc. that is reproduced and sold without licensing or taxation; it is an illegal business! Many places sell bootleg figures and media because they are cheap to reproduce and have a bigger profit turnover. Sellers take advantage of both new and old collectors alike with this business. The goal of this club is to educate and prevent members of My Figure Collection from falling for bootlegs.

If you find products you think are bootlegged, are not properly marked in our database, or aren't linked here please post or let a MOD or ADM know so we can change it.

For an ongoing list of Ebay bootleg sellers please check this thread: club/139/discus...

Some common signs of bootlegs and a bootleg seller:

• Price too good to be true (e.g. $40 USD for a figure that normally retails for $100-$150 USD)
• Shiny, fake plastic looking skin or parts
• Noticeable seams, details seem to be missing, parts may not be molded correctly, eyes look different than original figure
• Lack of a holographic sticker (may or may not be true, some official products lack official stickers as well)
• Jointed figures (Nendoroid, Figmas, Figuarts...) may appear loose or like they're about to fall apart
• Seller lists other known bootleg products or other large amounts of cheap merchandise (jewelry, electronics, etc.)
• Seller's username is a combination of random letters/numbers (e.g. 1327198, xmg50427867-4)
• Listing does not state the company or that the figure is legitimate. They may use phrasing such as "China version, China original, China homegrown product", terms such as "new PVC statue, PVC figure, 100% High Quality Brand New", or nothing at all

SetsuKat3 d. temu#97977051*snip*Welcome on MFC!

The figure ITEM #379925 doesn't have reported bootlegs (it would get a red text like ITEM #462749) and the package looks close to those uploaded by other MFC users (you can view them in gallery section on the figure page).

What can make you confused is that Cloud ver 1 is based on the 1st trailer, and ver 2 on the actual appearance in the game, see PICTURE #2545668

KarlaAlex1 mies. temu#96291864Hi I'm pretty sure this item has bootlegs? They are super cheap ITEM #460017 It's got listings on both Ebay and AliExpess in the 20~ dollar range, so very likely. One of the AliExpress has a few pictures from people who have bought them, but I'm not familiar enough with the legit figure (and they're all fairly low-res) to spot the giveaways of their being bootleg.

Nefere1 mies. temu#96021536Welcome to MFC! ITEM #26558 you're asking for doesn't have bootlegs (or - it wasn't spotted in 10 years). The only photo tagged as bootleg of the figure is PICTURE #1246007 which isn't a regular bootleg. Pokaż zawartość spoileraUkryj zawartość spoileraI assume it's a home-made copy made of resin and painted by MFC user or bought from a particular website-that-should-not-be-named that specializes in profesional copies of garage kits (originally unassembled and unpainted in limited numbers)
Each figure entry has a gallery of photos, and most of them feature box photos. Here's the one PICTURE #314338 with the same holographic sticker. The H Japan authentication sticker is a sign the figure is genuine. It's often spotted on boxes from 10-20 years ago. They tend to be lost with time, so if it isn't present, it doesn't mean that the figure is fake.
Japanese sellers tend to discount figures for every damage spotted on the box, and your finding is heavily sunburned... I hope the figure itself isn't faded.
Few tips for novice collector:
Pokaż zawartość spoileraUkryj zawartość spoilera* I see you're from Canada, so keep in mind possible customs. Hope this article BLOG #29978 would be helpful! Keep in mind it was created before pandemic and some shipping options aren't available from Japan.
* Also, you need to use a proxy to bid and win auctions. The proxy would bid and win in your behalf. Various fees tend to stack so choose the proxy carefully! A forum in Shopping club is a great start club/72/discuss...
* figure collecting is a rabbit hole, so put restraints on what items to buy, which characters, themes, types of figure etc. Start to budgeting the hobby if you don't. Mind that you need to have a place for all figures so you won't become a hoarder. More tips are in comments of the recent article BLOG #48726 made by veteran collectors.

Woahhh thank u so much for the help and advice!!! :))) That is super useful!!!

mkbecomingbroke1 mies. temu#96021351howdy! (i hope im asking this question in the appropriate place)
im new to figure collecting and i would like some help in regards to the authenticity of this figure. It is the Kagamine Rin Nuclear Fusion figure by Max Factory. I found the figure on yahoo auctions for a quite reasonable price. These are the pictures from the seller: imgur.com/a/Gs2...
I had a lot of trouble finding other images of the figure's box, and couldn't find any information on known fakes of this figure. The box seems to be discoloured, but it also has an H japan sticker.Im not sure if this means anything? I compared pictures of authentic versions of the figure to the ones in the pictures, and nothing seems off about it. The seller seemed legit, and there was a lot of good reviews. Help will be much appreciated :)))

Quick question - What is the preferred course of action to take if someone uploads pictures of figures that appear to be bootlegs, but they aren't tagged as bootlegs? For example PICTURE #2695381 - there are no official versions of this with black hair. Send an IM? Put an alert on the photo? I'd prefer to not ruffle feathers the wrong way since it's entirely possible that the owner may not even know they are bootlegs, etc.

update - it appears that the picture has been removed. I'm still curious to know the preferred method to handle something like this.

salvo_one2 mies. temu#95421610I don't own any Megahouse figures anymore, and I never had many in the first place (and none of them were G.E.M.s) so I am certainly not the most experienced, but from what I am able to see in your pictures, it looks legit to me.
The box doesn't appear to be missing any branding, and the support email and JAN code listed appears to be correct as well. If you look at this bootleg picture picture/1920969... you can see the front of the box shown is missing the Megahouse logo on the bottom right corner. I cannot read Japanese, so I can't say for sure all the text is correct.
As for the licensor sticker, those aren't always a good way to tell. There are pictures of this box on MFC uploaded by 4 different users, all were uploaded before this figure was re-released in 2020. 2 have blue stickers, 1 has a gold sticker and 1 has no sticker. There are a few differences on the back of your box (look at the blue and red colouring around the contact info), but I suspect you have a 2020 release.
The figure in the box looks to have clean paint lines, and doesn't appear to be super shiny like a lot of bootlegs do, but that can be hard to tell both in a box and in a picture.
If it's a bootleg, you would likely be able to tell after it's open and you aren't looking at it through layers of plastic, or maybe someone who actually owns this figure can chime in and help, but I think you've got a legit one on your hands.

Hey, thank you so much! I appreciate the input. I feel a little better with my purchase now.
