Komentarze Glass display vs Shelves

Compromise: shelves with glass door attachments. Thats my plan after moving. I don't like detolfs, but dusting is a pain. I also have cats, so it's double the trouble.

Additionally, I want to have my nicest figures in their own personalized acrylic displays --just have to find the space.

Damn, I hadn't heard that. I collect mainly 1/12 figures, so I don't think most of my shelves are even holding 8lbs, but that sucks! I noticed the price increased by $20 and was thinking that if anything, they might have done something to improve them. Thanks for letting me know.

I have six detolfs and am going to be buying a few more soon since I've run out of display space atm. But I also have two bookshelves filled with books and games, which I display some of my less expensive figures(mainly non-imports)in front of.

I have my figures in their own room on open shelves. There is a window in the room but I have it blocked with shelves so there is no sunlight. I also have the air conditioning blocked so no air is being forced in, but the temperature never gets too cold or too hot. I keep the door closed unless I enter or leave the room. In a way the whole room is enclosed like a glass case. I have not noticed a dust problem. Even if there is dust it's way less than what I have in my living room. I have it pretty well-lit, but I am still working on getting every black shelf lined with LEDs so it's an ongoing and costly process.

I 100% agree that open air shelves are more visually appealing, as you have more display option available. However the need to dust everything is what puts me off.

When my collection was small, I had open air. Was easy to manage. But now that I'm at 100+ items, it's impossible :D.

So now I put everything in a glass cabinet, and then have more solid/less breakable things out in the open like my Perfect Grades.

And here am I, I got a detolf wall, exposed figures and also normal wood shelfs with "glass" to "close" it up.

Hands down shelves for me. It just looks so nice cause mine has a section of top to bottom figures then shelves beside it are my manga and comic books. :D I love looking at them that way cause it shows I have other hobbies aside from figure collecting (for me anyway XD)

Having a glass display is a big ol' DO NOT TOUCH sign without actually being one, and saves me a ton of anxiety when I'm not around to watch my figures. There are of course also the obvious benefits in having to dust less frequently and having a dedicated display space. However, point taken, the other commenters have made some great points about having their figures be a part of their living space in a more natural way. The sterile look of glass shelves is certainly not for everyone or every room.

I prefer shelves because big glass cases give me a LOT of anxiety and I've heard too many horror stories about them breaking. Having a dedicated shelf is really nice, especially since you can store more than just figures (manga, goodies, acrylics, etc.) Glass cases seem a bit more exclusive if that makes sense. I'm also a fan of the "cluttered" figure collection look which really works with regular shelves.
