Very first custom (maid!) completed~!Very first custom (maid!) completed~!Diary

As the title suggests, I finished my very first custom figure project today! This one took me a few months, sitting in parts on my desk, being worked on between college and life events. But today, I sat down, added the finishing touches, glued her and BAM, done! So here I am today, with my 1/6 handpainted Saber Alter Maid custom~!

As you can see below, the assembly was pretty fast. Also really fun! However, whenever people came into my room (through the months she was in parts on my desk) people would give me looks..... I mean, beheaded maids? How vulgar! and she was quite scary XD;;

You can probably see the mock-up sketch I did of her as a reference in the background, and the mini-maid I finished ages ago (who got her own blog post here:BLOG #3811. The other figure, in the background, is her unfinished twin. Because these two lovely ladies are actually bootlegs - I didn't want to stuff up a nice garage kit, and I buy through someone else, it was much easier to buy a bootleg for cutting up, and practise. I was sponsored by a friend - she paid for both of them, and I would have one custom and she would have the other! Hers is going to be a Touhou Project OC of mine, named Kaede Izanami, an Oni Demon~ I thought it was an excellent opportunity to get off my butt and start customizing, especially when I was being paid in maid figures.

And here she is all done! Astute people might notice 'she doesn't look that different!'. Well, no she doesn't, but on closer inspection she has iridescent black paint that glitters under the right light - similar paint to Gift's Saber Extra. She's also not intended to be a Saber Repaint - she's actually a genderbend of Sebastian Michaelis ITEM #3492 (done on a bet/whim/and also because I have a fondness for genderbends!) and he's a butler, so why not a genderbent maid?

In these you can see some of the metallic effect (and my terribleness at painting - but ignore that XD;)In my opinion, eyes make or break a custom - they're very difficult to do as well, but I had some experience from just drawing in general and My Little Pony customs - the same process can be applied to customs, and I think it works well. Eyebrows though, are SO HARD.

White paint is my new worst enemy. I need an airbrush.
But wait, what's in her bucket?

TINY BOTTLES OF NOVELTY COLOURED CHAMPAGNE AND ICE CUBES. Man oh man it was a stroke of genius to include them. See, the other custom, Kaede, is an oni demon - and in Touhou canon, they're almost always drunk. So I decided to hunt down some tiny ice cubes and bottles on ebay (bless them) to include with hers - and I had enough for both. GAH IT'S SO CUTE. I also have tiny cutlery to put with her (if you're a Kuroshitsuji fan, you'll understand why) but I forgot to include them ^^;; Gallery Time!

The quality of my photographs is terrible, so you'll have to pardon me. She's also a pain to keep on the base - she IS a bootleg after all, but she stands well enough with a bit of force (and sneaky blu-tack). I have Alter's original Saber 1/6 Maid, ver. R, so here they are together.

She's not nearly as good as her lovely mass produced counterpart. Saber IS an Alter product after all (I only had 4 brushes, cheap craft paint, high strength epoxy glue, cotton tips and a bottle of mod pogde!), but I think she looks still pretty good together. I spent about 6 months on her, so I'd hope so XD;;

Thank you for taking the time to check out my post! Some (nice) constructive criticism would be good, and any stories or similar customs you might have done! It was certainly an experience (I don't think I'll be working with much white paint until I get an airbrush, either, so my custom Madoka's going on hold) and I am DEFINITELY doing alternate versions of figures again. I was thinking a kimono-detail inspired red & gold GSC Inori.... ;3 I've also posted a similar, slightly more detailed review of the process on my blog hatchuu.wordpre... if you're interested!

Great stuff! Do more customs and level up! I'm sure your confidence and skill in this area will get to the point where you won't hesitate to use official kits. :)

Hatchuu7 l. temu#1240587It /really/ is. When I first got her she was covered in ugly seams like that, it was terrible. The bucket is made out of a weird, brittle material, and I feared sanding would break it, so I left it, especially since it's only really viewed from the back.
And also, thank you very much!

At least real buckets often have ugly seams like that. :D Especially plastic ones... Could just say it's a welding line.

Lovely job on her. :)
