Hello~ I recently got two more figures from AmiAmi and while this is less of a review as they're A/B items, I just had to show them off in a review of sorts! Last article had Unity May, a grail of mine, & Mabinogi's Succubus BLOG #4962; and now I have two more grails I've also been eyeing off for a LONG time, about as long as I've been collecting. Today we have Croche ITEM #4849 (or Cloche) Leythal Pastalia (ITEM: B/BOX: B), and Luca Trulywaath ITEM #285 (ITEM: A/BOX: B)(or Trulyworth - the localisation for these names are all over the place!), from Ar Tonelico 2.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/12/562202.jpeg

I haven't yet played any of the Ar Tonelico games, as I play PAL and the english translations are much easier to find on NTSC. But I have admired them from afar for years - they're a high, epic fantasy/sci fi sort of game, with some of the best character designs I've seen in a while, and most importantly, the music, one of the central aspects of the game, is beautiful! The producer behind it is GUST - whom you might know for the Atelier series.
I think I'll let the trailer speak for itself below (if the video is working of course ^^;;).

First up was my HOLIEST OF GRAILS 11 1!!1!! Chroche! I forked out about 11,000 yen for her (ouch). She is the reason I found out about Ar Tonelico, and she has been a must-get figure for a very very long time! I fell in love with her haughty, noble look, and delicate face. The design also struck me, the rich white, gold, and blue is stunning and the figure really delivers on that.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/12/562206.jpeg

Her blister wasn't taped, but every inch of her was carefully wrapped in plastic - whoever had her last really cared for her! Also, BOY she is heavy. The mass of her hair is somewhat incredible.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/12/562207.jpeg

Also, she smells new! 'What, you're reporting on her smell now Hatchuu?' Yes, yes I am, because she smells like she's factory new, overwhelmingly so! She does have some small marks, earning her B status - there's a small mark on her left foot, some paint transfer where her sword meets her dress, and a speck of black on the back. They're obvious since the white brings them out, but in every other way she's invariably mint, and I am amazed! The box is definitely worth low B rating, however, as it's sunfaded at the front and has a bit of a dent. Chroche is being freed for display however, so it does not worry me.

Her base is plain, with a nice design, but doesn't do much else. Dem legs though! I wonder where she works out, maybe she can give me some tips. And where she got those shoes, I dig those too! Her outfit really lends itself to a bit of sex appeal - she's well covered, but the uncovered collar, shoulders, and thigh add and extra dimension. She's not the traditional sexy, but more demure and regal, in that sense.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/12/562208.jpeg

Basically, I love her. She's beautiful and elegant and so worth the tons of money I paid for her! Her design is truly lovely and I'm so glad I have a real-life reference now for when I draw her (because man her outfit is complex!). My review certainly does not do her justice - Tier's review on Tentacle Armada certainly does if you want to see some more professional photos! Now, onto Luca~!

On first glance, it looks like Luca has been sealed up for a LONG time. The tape is yellowed and everything! Luca is indeed the less popular of the two, going for about half or even less of Chroche's price. I certainly do prefer Chroche, but I couldn't have one without the other, and she showed up only a few hours after I placed the order for Chroche.

I am very sure that indeed, Luca has never been opened! The blister is taped together and everything seems mint. I feel bad that she's been stuck for so long, actually ^^; Assembling her was vastly more confusing than Chroche, due to her pose - there's a small plastic peg that slides into her foot, and a tall metal one that I presume she simply balances on, as I cannot for the life of me find if there's a hole for the peg (edit: I did! HUZZAH) It seems rather precarious still, and the base is not very matching to Luca either (the same shade of blue is used on the decal on Chroche's base though).

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/12/562212.jpeg

I might sound a bit negative, but I truly love Luca too! The sculptor did an amazing job with the face - it's really unique and sort of angular; she has a lovely side profile indeed, large and beautiful eyes. The similarly complicated outfit of hers is portrayed with skill, the sleeves with their ties at the end especially. I ADORE the harp like adornment to her head!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/12/562216.jpeg

It seems both Luca and Chroche enjoy wearing strange head adornments that suit their lovely and rather unique hair.
They are polar opposites, (as the leading Reyvatiels usually are in each game; but in a strange way, they still complement each other. Chroche's design is certainly western, she's very noble and rather unamused (and totally going into 'waifu' status with me, total babe) while Luca's design is obviously eastern and she's bright and happy and energetic in design. They go well together, I think!

All in all, I think AmiAmi really delivered again. This is about the third preowned purchase and the 4th and 5th figures I have gotten - and I have not been disappointed yet~

Hatchuu7 l. temu#1229445I usually do drawn mock-ups beforehand, which are very VERY helpful, but sculpting materials are expensive and sculpting in itself is a mystery to me. How people sculpt the figures I buy I'll NEVER KNOW. Maybe I'll have some time to draw nendoroid mock ups on the weekend, find some bootlegs that'd be good bases! That's the most important thing.
I know some of it, how to construct a sentence and translate, but it's still not a complete language and probably won't ever be. I agree though, the blend of german and hindi and latin and so much more is really lovely. I am suprised it's not as popular! But it's good there's still a dedicated but small fanbase worldwide.
Ah, that Menma is LOVELY, she's so simple but so well done, as expected of Max Factory! At such a price, I'd have a hard time resisting too! Splurging is fun though, I'll be working a bit to get the money to fund sudden MUST GETS on ami ami and elsewhere soon XD;; Also the rest of my wishlist, only 6 more to get!
Ah, I know that feel, you want merch but just... not enough? You can't find the perfect figure even though there's decent options. I really want a perfect Sakuya Izayoi from Touhou Project, but although there IS good stuff out there, and for cheap... it's not right ^^;;

Ah I was probably a bit too vague, but I meant that I was resisting the Menma figure because it just isn't good enough. I mean, it's really good, and I really like it, but...not good enough! I can't be swayed! I don't want to let myself be swayed. (*_____*) But every time I look at it it's just so pretty...and just so cheap. Ergh. (>_<)
But yeah, not enough PERFECT figures. A lot of good ones, but if I am gonna be picky and desire perfection (or as close to perfection as I can find), then I don't want to go crazy and splurge on every little thing. That's just way too much for me right now. And yeah, the Sakuya figures out right now are all lacking in some way or another. Then again, a lot of Touhou figures seem lacking to me. I'm hoping it'll change with the coming years as more and more companies decide to take up and release more form the series. Exclusive and limited ones are usually quite well done, at least.

Anyway, I wish you good luck in finding the rest of your wishlist!

Ferdverel7 l. temu#1227245Oh man, that sounds amazing! Props to your skillz (*_*). I don't know if I can touch sculpture. Give me a drawing job, sure I'll whip up something, but sculpting I'll just be all *stares at thing* WHAT DO AHJGHAJHG *spin*. If you do descide to do some Ar Tonelico figures, do let me know how they turn out, I'm curious! (^o^)
Yeaaah, Hymnos sounds really nice and interesting. I really like how the blending of Latin and other Western languages with some East Asian influence gives it this really fantastical sound. It's cool. (*_*) But yeah, I'd expect a series like that would be pretty big in Japan in term of merchandising. You've got your bishoujos and everything. >_>
Hahaha, well as long as you're happy with the purchase, then no regrets! On the other hand, I managed to resist the one thing I saw on sale that interested me (namely this: ITEM #98864). I was really really tempted for the past few days since I thought the figure itself was really good for the sale price (3380 yen for a 1/7 WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN), and not only that but I did enjoy AnoHana and Menma is a cute character. But, I successfully resisted the urge today. (*_*) Since it's not like the series or the character are the top of anything for me. As much as I liked everything, it's...NOT ENOUGH. Graah.

Hatchuu7 l. temu#1227115Well, I'm doing some custom figures right now, mainly bootlegs-to-customs (of Madoka ITEM #78404 and Saber Alter ITEM #13764), and they're going pretty well! If I get good enough, I think I want to do some Ar Tonelico Nendoroids. It's sculpting, so it'd be difficult, right now I only have experience in hand-painting, but I think maybe I could do a few extra of some of the most popular characters and sell them off. Plus, they'd be cute as hell X3

Oh man I agree! The Hymnnos language even has two dialects - that's crazy detail. I quite like the language actually! It's just a shame it didn't get much merchandise attention.

Haha, I've already caved on a few things. I've only ordered 5, which is pretty good, I think XD;; Considering 3 were grails, one I was coveting for a while (and it was $8!) and one I bought on a whim because it was cheap and cool. Best purchase, but I'm poor now ^^;;

Ferdverel7 l. temu#1226875Awww, really?? How disappointing. (T_T) That's a shame, I really liked Misha's adult-form design too.

Not sure how popular the Ar Tonleico series is overall, so maybe the companies feel that the figures won't sell as well as more mainstream series? It's a shame though, I think all the work put into the games are kinda underrated. I mean, how many games (or anything really) do you get a whole new language thought out with proper linguistic structure and everything? Not many as far as I know.

That's really great to hear! Haha, AmiAmi might be the death of my wallet someday too, especially if they keep going with all those crazy sales. (@_@)

Thunder7 l. temu#1226346I asked Max Factory back in summer of 2008 or 2009 if they had any plans to make any figures of the Reyvateil's from the first game and they said no.

Awww, really?? How disappointing. (T_T) That's a shame, I really liked Misha's adult-form design too.

Hatchuu7 l. temu#1226333Oh man, I so want to. I've been slowly collecting merch in the meantime too! Shurelia seems to be the very favourite along with Aurica and Misha for everyone I've talked to XD;; I wonder how well figures of them would sell.

Hatchuu7 l. temu#1226333 AmiAmi's preowneds are a blessing for those who want a whole bunch of older, rarer figures. They are super fast and amazing, and usually the condition is great~ Though you could say it's a curse, because of the amount of money I've spent ^^;;

victorviper7 l. temu#1225914I'll second that. Aurica was always my favorite Reyvateil, and if they ever made scaled figures of Aurica, Misha, and Shurelia, I'd be over the moon.

I asked Max Factory back in summer of 2008 or 2009 if they had any plans to make any figures of the Reyvateil's from the first game and they said no. Perhaps someone else will pick up the idea, but I've reserved myself to fighting like heck to come up with some cash any time the ultra rare garage kits come up for auctions instead. I tried to snag the Aurica one last December, but $200 wasn't enough to get it ^^;;

Also, it's good to see another Aurica fan! She's by far my favorite game character ^_^

ebchman7 l. temu#1225011YEAHH!! Congrats!!
Sniff that intoxicating fresh-from-the-factory pvc smell.... and be glad that you made the right decision XD
Chroche is indeed regal while Luca is all happy. They complement each other well.

It's such a good smell, even though it really shouldn't be XD;; It's the smell of SUCCESS.
I'd like to see more regal-looking figures. They're not that common, I think.

Ferdverel7 l. temu#1225508Nice additions! I love the Ar Tonelico series, you really should play the games someday. (*_*) The music, of course, is one of its shining features, but I quite like the stories and characters in each of them (though I think I enjoyed the first one the best, even if it's only because Shurelia is awesome and Misha is my favorite Reyvateil in the trilogy (>w>)).

I also find it very helpful to find out more about AmiAmi's preowned figures, so thanks for the review! I've always liked shopping from AmiAmi, but never ordered preowned before. Glad to know they turned out well!

But in any case, Chroche and Luca look great in these figures! Congrats~

neptunecadet7 l. temu#1225412Congratulations on the grails! :) They are both very lovely! I've never played those games, but I LOVE the music from them!

Haha, that's why I own them! The music is so beautiful, isn't it * w *

victorviper7 l. temu#1225914I was pretty pumped when I saw Luca on AmiAmi, but then that changed to disappointment when I realized someone else had gotten to her first. Congrats on getting her, though.

Aha, sorry ; 3 ; It seems she's in high demand. I missed out on her two times and Chroche once before I snagged them - I know there's a Luca on Rakuten, if you know about that store.

shinhawk7 l. temu#1225104I regret passing up on Cloche. She was still rather expensive back when she released at around $95. Even at her current price, I'd still love to get her. She's tied with Shurelia as my favorite Reyvateil. Now I wish Shurelia got a figure of her own...

I'd love to see more Ar Tonelico figures, it's such a shame it only got two. Shurelia is adorable, I think the three of them (Tyria, Frelia, Shurelia) would look amazing as a set with some transparent parts or similar! Actually, just any more figures of some of the leading ladies I'd buy in a heartbeat.
