Dai Figure Box Break out!

Welcome to my post, Today it is a place of unfulfilled dreams, “not enough time” and dead ambitions!

Instead of writing what loot I received this month I will write/show the figures and figmas which I have been storing for the last one and a half years instead of displaying. These figures, representing 2/5ths to a half of all figures I have collected in this time period are placed on top of my wardrobe out of site out of mind for reasons explained later. This post is also a bit of a blog entry to poke fun at various things.

Above: A Photograph of the top of my wardrobe.

One day I suddenly snapped and realized screw my reasons! If I do nothing anything about this and don’t take them out of their box they would probably remain in their for ever. And so I did, it was a moment of ecstasy unboxing so many of them at one time.

Above: All the figures from the top of my wardrobe which are still in their boxes.

As you can see from this part of my collection I am quite the fan Tales of Series, Clannad and Azumanga Daioh.

In the interest of writing reviews in the future for these figures I snapped the 6 sides of the figure boxes as well as the figures which I did unbox in their blisters.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/10/22/546488.jpeg

The figures which I opened on the day.

A is for Azumanga and the place where I will start explaining my figures. Azumanga, which I watched back in 2007 is still my favourite Anime ever. About a year ago I discovered Rakuten, and saw Sakaki and Kagura there for4200 yen each so they were immediately purchased however were left unboxed until this day.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/10/22/546574.jpeg
If Azumanga is my favourite anime, Clannad is definitely the most emotional. I remember watching it right when I was only starting into figures collecting. I immediately bought Furyu Fuuko and Kotomi my 2 most favourite characters. Later on through the powers of Rakuten and Manderake I managed to get Kotobukiya’s Kotomi, Tomoyo and Nagisa. Kotomi was 5500yen on Mandarake and Nagisa/Tomoyo were going for less than cost price of 3000 yen on Rakuten. Definitely good purchases.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/10/22/546575.jpeg
An interesting fact is Nagisa, a 1/8 scale figure from 2005, has a really efficient box. It is smaller than the average figma (Madoka 2011). You got to consider that Nagisa is not the largest character but it did get me thinking.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/10/22/546544.jpeg

Archie Klaine, by Kotobukiya, is one of the two offensive spell casters from your adventuring party in Tales of Phantasia. Which is the prequel to my favourite game Tales of Symponia. I virtually stole her off ebay and will unbox her the moment I finish Tales of Phantasia on the DS. (I am currently on the last dungeon).

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/10/22/546576.jpeg
For the other Tales figures Yuri I would open after playing through Tales of Vesperia. This would be after finishing Symphonia for the 3rd time on my current play through. Similarly I would unbox Luke after acquiring a 3DS and playing through Tales of the Abyss, which comes after Phantasia’s completion. Even though I know nothing about the characters and may end up hating them, however with the limited edition nature of the hobby I see them as an investment.

Original Griffon Sakuya, which I purchased on her first re-release. Even though she is a fairly plain figure at that time I foolishly thought she was going to be the one and only Sakuya figure on the market and that Griffon in no way or form going to re-release her. In hindsight how foolish.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/10/22/546577.jpeg
That was until Baddass Cherry Blossom version of Sakuya was released and the facial expression as well as the pose made me buy her too. I intended to open a Sakuya after I defeated Perfect Cherry Blossom on hard. (I know its doable as I got up to Yuyuko on hard with four lives then promptly chocked). Due to my self self imposed rule of one figure per character, this means the original Sakuya will stay in her box a lot longer perhaps I will see how much it sells for in 10 year’s time, hopefully being a collectors item or just give her away to a loving home.

Just to prop myself up here is the replay/fail through of me completing the last level of The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil on Hard so go and judge ahead.

www.youtube.com...

Ya I got figma Mari for cheap (1200 yen) as she is the least popular of the 3 Eva Girls, probably caused by not being around as long and displacing the screen time of a certain Redhead and more importantly taking away Kagi’s talk about melons in the movie. Your only here to add mystery to the storey but more importantly so Eva that yet another girl to merchandise alongside super popular Asuka and Rei.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/10/22/546597.jpeg

Next where Madoka and Mami. I got these as I wasn’t going to buy their full scaled figure. Since Madoka the series is super popular and each of the magical girls have an unique character design it was bit of a no brainer. Madoka cause she is the main character and figma Homu would be lonely without her and Mami because she came with mini Charlotte and that going insane face.

Now comes the fun part after unboxing, finding a place for each in your collection. In my case (pun intended) it meant a total rearrangement of my cabinet!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/10/22/546485.jpeg

Above : Figure Cabinet Before and After shot by a different camera.

For those who care I will humorously list the changes I made to my collection to accommodate the new influx of figures in a similar way to the patch notes after your favourite MMO is updated.

• Top Level. Saber Cuirassier purely awesome so she can draw more attention anything fitting her dress style and magical ability is placed up on top floor.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/10/22/546515.jpeg
Above: Top Floor

• Large updates to slice of life anime collection, whole collection moved to 2nd floor where they can draw more attention.
• Touhou Project characters moved from top floor to 1st floor, they have had their time of being flavour of the month.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/10/22/546489.jpeg

My point of view about Griffon Figure bases comparing the 2nd and 1st floor of my cabinet. Thought I would make it into a motivational poster.

•To make up available space on top floor, LatLoli Miku, Viral and my Brother’s Kenshin moved to the bottom floor, to join Coobie.
•Remaining space on bottom floor filled with my trading figures and figmas. It is very cramped.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/10/22/546516.jpeg
Pandemonium! Can you find Figma Homura? she is pretty well hidden.

•Furyu Kotomi got replaced by the more expensive Kotobukiya Kotomi.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/10/22/546517.png
I must admit the face on Furyu somehow looks better just due to the fact the eyes are so wide apart on Kotobukiya, something which I am disappointed about but doesn’t break the figure.

•Emotion style Sherrly Nome was removed from the collection back on top of the wardrobe as there is just something just wrong with her face and the available display space is filled.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/10/22/546507.jpeg
Face is ugly, booted back into storage

•Similarly Sekai Saionji was going to suffer the same fate for being a pretty mediocre figure, and for being a character I didn’t really like. However, thanks to a model kit part, a way was found to make her also, just add knife! So she can stay.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/10/22/546538.png
Just add knife, everything better!

Overall I have been quite happy with the transformation of my collection. Although it is now probably time for me to to buy another Deltof as this one is fully packed and probably too cramped in many opinions!

From the start you might be thinking, why did I leave all of them in their boxes? There are a number of reasons for that. The first probably would ironically be my love of figures. Now on to the crushed dream bit I love them so much that I swore to myself after University for every figure I collected I would do a review of. I expected if I dedicated myself to it I could produce a half decent review every week or so. After that I shortly received a job which I am working away from home for extended periods and for 14 hours a day. This leaves little time or motivation for me to write my wordy over analyzing reviews. As you can see this is the part where I failed to achieve my dream. I haven't even got good with Photoshop or even proper website coding.

The other reasons include not having enough space to store them, having one or so Deltof to store them all. Not freaking out my parents “Oh looks like the number of figure in the cabinet has changed” “looks like you were spending your money wisely”. The third was using them as motivation as mentioned above for completing games and also writing reviews. I was like to myself “finish writing the review and then you can put this glorious figure up on display”

If you have read all this I would like to ask for those who do what is your motivation for keeping figures in boxes? Sazako out!

Why do you leave figures in boxes?

53%I don't they are immediately taken out of their packaging and placed on display.
26%Lack of Display space. It is easier to stack boxes.
3%Peer/Parent Pressure. It is easier to hide a box than a figure and you will still have it even though it may be sold out in the
0%I enjoy opening a bunch of figures at once hence they stay in their boxes until I get enough.
1%I plan to resell/give my figures as gifts in the future. It is definitely best to keep them in their original packaging.
1%I enjoy looking at the figures in their boxes more.
0%I like keeping them in their boxes until I have written a figure review.
2%I use them as motivation after finishing a game/achieving something I treat myself by opening my figure.
5%I plan to move in the future. So to avoid damage the figures stay in their original packaging.
8%I don't.

I keep most of my collection in their boxes atm due to lack of space, dust and one crazy kitten that climbs all over the place.
Soon I should be getting some custom floating shelves that have Acrylic casing over the top to protect the figures from dust, sunlight etc. They look really nice, like those SolidStage pedestals you can get but longer.

Tenshi-nyan10 l. temu#1194435Heh, I've got my entire collection returned back into their boxes, for I am moving to another flat, where I'll finally have a larger room with more space to display me beloved ones <3

Will be lotsa fun (and work) to re-arrange them once I'm done moving...

Good Luck with that. You knew you had to move so you have saved all the boxes?

abi10 l. temu#1194244It is awesome when you get to open so many boxes, and I suppose it is pretty fun to rearrange everything for display, I'm still wainting to do this some day... I open most of my figures to check if they didn't arrived with defects, though I later box them again for storage, as I still don't find a nice display cabinet for them, IKEA stores don't exist here so... maybe I'll have to save a lot for a custom display or something :/... that's my plan for the future, save for a good display cabinet in the case I find one, or to look where I can get one made.

Both were awesome. Thanks. Good luck on your search for a cabinet I am sure other opetions do exist

Asako10 l. temu#1193525Why not get some risers, and another detolf? Crowding sorted. :D

Yeah I will be looking into getting a new cabinet this summer, I also just ordered a crap load of stuff off Amiami preowned and will have no where to display them. For now it is going to be overcrowding. But your right should get some risers.

AkitoKitty10 l. temu#1193512Wow~! Such a nice collection, and awesome to hear you had so much fun with it x33 I really need to get some sort of display case or something for myself.. Yours looks awesome ^_^ And Sheryl nome looks kind of scary xD

Thank you! Yeah it was fun rearranging it. I think display cabinets are the hidden cost of collecting figures.Tthat or trying to find shelf space somewhere else then dusting them. Yeah Bandai Murdered Sherryl's face. Other figures of her have so much better faces. Back into the box with her!

xcupidxstuntx10 l. temu#1193487Oooooh that's quite the haul 8D I'm sure you'll love both Yuri and Luke; they're brilliant protagonists and just...I'm biased because I love them soooooo much but srsly, they are AWESOME and badass and just...yes xD I don't want to spoil anything so I'll stop talking now 8D

yeah I am looking forward to playing the games.
