Random buys and gifts loot! May 2019 - August 2019Random buys and gifts loot! May 2019 - August 2019Loot

MaakieMaakie1 mies. temu
Welcome to another combined loot of mine, where I put a lot of random smaller buys, gifts and happenings to make one blog! For my previous one see: BLOG #45832 , this one will continue where the last one stopped. I will talk about things I acquired and did from May 2019 to August 2019. Corona ramble in spoiler: Pokaż zawartość spoileraUkryj zawartość spoileraI want to extra mention that these are older pictures from the 'before' times. I am staying indoors as much as possible at this moment and hope to be able to do fun days out again in 2021.

Let's get to it!

Aoba!

When my friend broken-Toybox BROKEN-TOYBOX showed her copy of the Aoba: Gothic version figure ITEM #549359 in her review BLOG #42480 , she unfortunately had received one with multiple heavy defects. Luckily she was able to get a replacement for most pieces. I had been interested in this figure, but the high price held me back from ordering him. Seeing as she now had a double, near complete Aoba, and said she had no goal for her duplicate, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask...

https://i.ibb.co/ZGfH3XK/IMG-3193.jpg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482416.jpeg

She was very kind to agree to ship her defect Aoba to me! My own goal for this figure was to find out if he would be a good match with my Ciel ITEM #297454 , because the possibility to display them together was the main reason I was interested in this figure.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482417.jpeg

So here is what I have now. What is missing is the round base (the figure can stand by itself, so I was not planning on getting one) and his right hand. For the right hand I was planning on sculpting my own replacement, which is a good exercise for the customization projects I have in mind to do in the near future. I unfortunately underestimated the replacement hand a bit as I will also have to sculpt a sleeve part and the transparent fabric. Well, when I get to it, I'll make sure to post a blog about the process!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482418.jpeg

Although in my opinion he is not worth his full retail price, I do like all the details on the outfit and his cheeky smile.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482419.jpeg

And Ren in those little booties! When I have this figure fixed up I want to do a more proper photoshoot with it!

Baccano! print

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482422.jpeg

Now for an order I was highly looking forward to! Artist Raven Cancio/13thRobot twitter.com/13t... had made this high quality Baccano! print that could be ordered on gallery-quality archival paper. As a Baccano! fan, why would I not jump on this opportunity! Half liter water bottle for size comparison.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482423.jpeg

It is so nice! I love how the series name has been worked into this art piece!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482424.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482425.jpeg

The high quality paper mainly shows when looking from very up close.

At a later point I framed the print (so it will show up in other blogs in the future), it took me a while to find the proper size frame.

Animefest 2019

https://i.ibb.co/C12TKwj/IMG-3264.jpg

It has become a yearly event for me to visit Animefest in Czech, where I help out as a member of Fake is Sad www.fakeissad.c... . At Animefest I help out by making reports about the bootlegs spotted at the vendor areas, depending on the situation also have talks with vendors, and give at least one panel every year (mostly one about bootleg spotting and the work Fake is Sad does). So far, I have met at least one other MFC member at every edition and in 2019 it was TALI ! She was there to give panels on photography.

As most of what I do at the event can't be shared publicly, I only have a few convention pictures to share:

https://i.ibb.co/P1YCqkh/IMG-20190524-173429615.jpg

I was very close to buying either the Doom or the Evil Within 2 mousepad, but they were way too big for my current desk setup. The artwork was so pretty, though!

https://i.ibb.co/dfRw0p4/IMG-20190525-092005314.jpg

Definintely the coolest cosplayer at the whole event! This person was cosplaying 'the Keeper' ENTRY #76074 from the Evil Within! It looked so sweeeeeet.

https://i.ibb.co/Vg8Dm9V/IMG-20190526-083611727.jpg

Oh shit it's me trying to look professional when giving a panel.

https://i.ibb.co/0JWK6K7/IMG-20190526-WA0022.jpg

On the dinner of the last night we went to this bar that did 'surprise' cocktails and you only had to let them know some general tastes you liked. I ended up getting a blood-orange cocktail (I think together with vodka? and maybe also some strawberry?) and some cotton candy added for sweetness. It was very nice and I loved the presentation!

For the people interested, I also did two more interesting outings while in Brno (the city where Animefest took place):

Visiting the city: Pokaż zawartość spoileraUkryj zawartość spoilera

https://i.ibb.co/dJNkX45/IMG-3241.jpg

The organization makes it possible for us every year to check out the city of Brno (city where the convention takes place in) for half a day before the event kicks off. This time we climbed one of the mountains near the city and checked out the view.

https://i.ibb.co/0Mhk4b4/IMG-3247.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/zr9H5KV/IMG-3248.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/5Wxzq0X/IMG-3254.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/4WD4NDm/IMG-3255.jpg

At the top there are buildings that look like you have stepped into the world of Attack on Titan. We had to rush a bit through these parts, so I don't know the background story here, maybe some older city/village/castle parts before the city became the Brno it is now?

https://i.ibb.co/2stdW9n/IMG-3262.jpg

Brno itself is also a highly recommended city to visit, there are many pretty buildings and lots of shops and restaurants.

Percival - Witcher Wild Hunt Live: Pokaż zawartość spoileraUkryj zawartość spoilera

https://i.ibb.co/K7GSD8K/IMG-3265.jpg

In collaboration with another convention taking place at the same weekend (Game Access Conference 2019, an event for the games industry), there was a combined closing concert for the events. The band Percival would play the soundtrack of the game 'The Witcher Wild Hunt' live, while on the screen the matching gameplay or cutscene for the music would show. I have to admit, I played only the first Witcher game and am not really up to date with what happened to the franchise since then (although I've heard the Netflix series is good!), but this event sounded like a very unique experience I didn't want to miss!

https://i.ibb.co/kcNPqJY/IMG-3270.jpg

It was indeed very unique and even if you didn't know about the details of this game, it was easy to immerse yourself with the big screen behind the band.

https://i.ibb.co/xLJb88x/IMG-3277.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/Z6qnRSv/IMG-3279.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/4FJCrmp/IMG-3284.jpg

There were also multiple parts with live actors, something with bog witches (?? from what I understood from the video ??), sword fighting and a masquerade event.

https://i.ibb.co/P9Cn8Rm/IMG-3291.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/9qrmcx2/IMG-3292.jpg

The most touching part of the concert was this solo-song, people that have played the game probably understood more reference about it.

I know of 'Games in Concert'-like events and of movies being played with a live orchestra and this experience definitely inspired me to visit something like that in the future. This was already a very cool experience from a game where I only some basics about, so it must be even more mind-blowing if it's a game or movie where I am a fan of.

Sneakers!

Can I also use this blog to show off some cool new sneakers I got? Of course! It's my blog!

https://i.ibb.co/YL73vbm/IMG-3300.jpg

Boom! Isn't that the most beautiful fabric pattern you've ever seen on a sneaker? I'm super scared of accidentally ripping it one day, though...

Birthday cupcakes

https://i.ibb.co/cxzLjcy/IMG-3301.jpg

My birthday was coming up and I had this recipe for red velvet cupcakes I desperately wanted to try out! I also still had some fondant where I didn't find a good use for yet, so...ta-dah!

https://i.ibb.co/1s6PLKg/IMG-3302.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/wwmbLXw/IMG-3303.jpg

I didn't really have shape cutters in any shape that would fit on the cupcake, so I ended up going for these Halloween-bats that almost fit.

The cupcakes turned out better than expected, but man, that fondant gives you a huge sugar rush! Had to watch out to not eat too many in a day or I wouldn't be able to blink with my eyes anymore.

Birthday gifts!

https://i.ibb.co/3TxNQ7q/IMG-3397.jpg

For my birthday gifts my husband gave me movie tickets to Detective Pikachu ENTRY #177009 and the matching 3DS game ITEM #662716 ! From my parents I got Theatrhythm Final Fantasy ITEM #95837 also for the 3DS.

https://i.ibb.co/CsdsTbT/IMG-3398.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/CssqYLN/IMG-3401.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/1nmfYkt/IMG-3400.jpg

My sister and brother-in-law gave me this very cool Gorillaz mug (you may have noticed from my earlier loot blogs that I'm a very big fan of this band and collect quite a bit from it)!

https://i.ibb.co/3FB38ww/IMG-3399.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/2jVSFD5/IMG-3402.jpg

I was very impressed for them to find such an old release item in sealed condition (this artwork was from the Plastic Beach album).

Baccano! fan-art charm

What started as a fun buy of more Baccano! merchandise (there is never enough!) turned into a customs services nightmare that took away all my possible joy in this item. I'll just show off the item here and for the people that would like to know the full rant, they can open the spoiler below that. I decided to buy two of the item, one to display/use and one to store. It also made me feel less bad at paying the high USA shipping price to Europe.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482426.jpeg

These charms were purchased from Brownie-chan browniechan.big... and I was very pleased with their presentation, I love that there are playing cards on the keyring as well.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482427.jpeg

The backing behind the charm was Baccano! styled.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482428.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482429.jpeg

The quality of the plastic and the print is very nice. The back also has protective backing that you can choose to keep on if you are not planning on using the item right away.

Now for the rant: Pokaż zawartość spoileraUkryj zawartość spoileraThese charms were $13.00 each, so I paid $26.00 in total. I had calculated the customs charges I could be getting for the item (lower chance of getting hit with an envelope, but still there) and waited for the charms. There was also a chance that depending on the currency rate at that moment, I could be free of charges (as charges start at items priced 22 euros and up, and the exchange rate back then put these items on 21 euro and some cents value).

The first issue started when I saw on the tracking code that it had been stuck in a local sorting center for weeks! Now, when it gets inspected and charged custom fees it delays the delivery mostly with about a week time, but this was...something else.

When finally the item was released, an invoice was attached to it (which is strange, because normally they don't give you an item before you pay up)...the invoice read...almost 40 euros...on the 21 euro charms I bought which in worse case scenario would have gotten hit with 7 euros extra charges! What the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

There was no choice for me but to pay up, because these guys are famous for sending a collection agency to you and raising the invoice with every second you are too late with their payment deadline. So I send the money away, together with a complaint to their customer service. I showed the exchange rate from when I bought the item and the exchange rate on the date I received the item, so they could see that at both times it was below 22 euros. I also mentioned that even though it was above 22 euros, charging 40 euros extra made absolutely no sense as that is almost double of what the sales price was.

Their customer service let me know that because this was an 'extraordinary case' (how come?? the invoice is on the envelope!) I had to send my complaint in writing with a huge number of attachments and also pay for the shipment of the paperwork to them. To say I was furious was an understatement, but I was already so deep into this mess I went along with the written complaint.

A couple of weeks later they say they 'acknowledged' my complaint, would fix the error and a follow-up would come soon. Wooh! I thought...but a few weeks later turned out I was wrong.

I got financial statement of my 'winnings' of the complaint:

------------------------------

Incorrectly charged: 39,53 euros
Processing fee: 10 euros
Charges of inspector (hourly rate x spend time): 28,70

Final payout: 0,83 euros, will be transferred to [my bank account number]

------------------------------

To say I was completely done is an understatement. The stamps to ship the paperwork to them were 2 euro and something cents, so I was actually in the minus for having filed a complaint. I have no clue how companies can get away with this.

It is now very hard for me to enjoy these charms I paid 35+ euros each for (close to 40 if you count the original shipping as well). Hopefully I have forgotten this ordeal in a couple of years more time. If someone has tips about how to forget such a negative experience from an item you want to enjoy, please let me know. :(

Customizing a bag

https://i.ibb.co/2Fk7bLy/IMG-3405.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/DYzSqM1/IMG-3406.jpg

In the previous year Secret Santa (as seen here: BLOG #42278 ), I received a handbag and mentioned I wanted to add straps to it so I could wear it as a shoulder bag. After one of my favorite shoulder bags broke down, I thought it was a good time to finally get to it!

Latest gurokawa coord

Not sure how much people are interested in J-Fashion, so I put it in spoiler. My latest Gurokawa coord that I have worn on lazy days at conventions a couple of times! Pokaż zawartość spoileraUkryj zawartość spoilera

One day so lazy, I accidentally forgot to put my contacts in during the morning so I just went with it.

Another day with way too much time spend on my make-up, but I'm liking the end result!

Animecon 2019

Animecon 2019 was the last event I visited in the Netherlands before my husband moved to another country for a new job. I also started slowly closing off our lives in our home country and preparing for my emigration as well. As we both have a lot of shared friends visiting this event (it is the biggest anime-specific convention in the Netherlands and also attracts a lot of people into gaming, including tabletop and card games), it was a good way to say some goodbyes and in general just feel very weird about the situation.

I still managed to buy a few small things!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482431.jpeg

A big anime store was doing huge sales and had boxes with unsorted items on which you could make an offer. I've had experiences before with Strike Witches items getting thrown in such dumps (as it's an older series) and after some digging through items, it turned out I was right! I found two straps I did not have yet! I can't remember the offer I made on the items, but I think something like $7 or $8 for both and the seller accepted right away. I guess I could have gone lower, but oh well.

The big strap is this Mio ITEM #37258 and the smaller strap is this Erica ITEM #125050 .

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482432.jpeg

I am really impressed with the Erica strap! So much small details in such a small figure!

https://i.ibb.co/84hn2YZ/IMG-3698.jpg

At a stand that was selling second hand games I picked up this copy of Eternal Sonata ITEM #119743 . I've heard a lot about this game, but did not see it for sale before. At the moment of writing, I also did not have time to play it yet.

We also got some surprise farewell gifts, which to be honest, made it hard not to cry!

https://i.ibb.co/Nry2Td8/IMG-3699.jpg

From our friend Purochen purochen.com/ , this cute envelope saying "Good luck in Moominland!! Have fun on Skype. :')".

https://i.ibb.co/pXQf10v/IMG-3700.jpg

She also drew this tiny Moomin on the envelope (we moved to Finland of which Moomins are the origin country).

https://i.ibb.co/HhNkD3v/IMG-3701.jpg

Inside were two charms purochen.storen... that can connect with eachother through their hands (like friendship jewellery). The other one was not pictured as my husband shortly left after the event (with his matching keychain). This gift was so sweet! <3

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482433.jpeg

From my friend W., who works at Front Wing and regularly comes back to the Netherlands, she gifted me this poster from Momoiro Closet!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482434.jpeg

She also photocopied some original sketches from Watanabe Akio ENTRY #8348 for me!! This is rough work that is probably never going to be actually published so I was like dsfdlksfhsfvjhdsk for her to give this to me!!! Again, a moment of near-crying.

Even though I had a great time and got some great loot, I am slowly feeling a bit sad again now when typing this, especially because my planned visit back to the Netherlands for 2020 was cancelled because of the Corona situation.

New PC setup!

https://i.ibb.co/GTvrxJg/IMG-3811.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/pKKRCqk/IMG-3812.jpg

My husband and I split up our PC possessions and I made this set-up with the half that stayed with me (I worked extra hard to have all the red-black color combination haha)!

Donald Duck x classical art

We are huge fans of Donald Duck and every once in a while there will be a classical art collaboration. This time there was a collaboration with the Rijksmuseum and most pieces in the collection were based on Rembrandt art.

https://i.ibb.co/XZrF9c8/IMG-3841.jpg

It was hard to pick only one item, but I decided on this re-usable bag of De Nachtwacht (The Night Watch), for reference, the middle part of the original piece:

https://i.ibb.co/Mht2GLX/reference.jpg

I love these collaborations way too much! I still want to get a big print in from DD x classical art one day, but haven't decided on which painting yet.

Bedsheet and pillow in use!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482442.jpeg

I thought these cuties looked very nice together and I don't think I've shared my Mikan ITEM #262097 bedsheet in use before! The other pillow is one of my half-pillows from Sanya ITEM #42774 .

Dark Souls Comics Omnibus

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482435.jpeg

When I saw advertisements that they were going to make omnibus books from the Dark Souls comics, I decided to pre-order the first omnibus and gift it to my husband after release. He is a very big Dark Souls fan, but we did not know much about the comic. This seemed like a good introduction.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482436.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482437.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482438.jpeg

The book is full color and it's a collaboration between multiple artists, which means that the art style can vary a bit from story to story.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482439.jpeg

It's fun to recognize characters and locations from the game.

I did not read this book myself, but my husband let me know he had some mixed opinions about it. Overall the art was good, but the quality of the writing was a bit up and down in his opinion. So we've decided to not continue to order these omnibuses for now and rather just keep an eye out if some of them would go on sale, if we decide to continue to follow these.

Muse concert

As you might remember from my previous Random buys and gifts loot! BLOG #42278 , I had bought tickets for the Muse 2019 tour! The band was amazing, but the circumstances of the concert were horrendous, the organization should be ashamed... A recap and a rant in the spoiler: Pokaż zawartość spoileraUkryj zawartość spoileraShortly after buying tickets, I found out that the concert was basically doomed to fail because of the bad location. As I really wanted to see Muse, I decided to hold onto the tickets. As I don't want to make a wall of text, I'll just put everything what ended up going wrong in a list (and I'll probably am forgetting multiple points as well):
- As we don't have big enough venues for the audience of such a huge band, the concert was planned in one of the biggest open fields of the country. I never went there myself, but once I told some friends about it, they went like "Maakie, are you sure you want to go?" and told me about earlier big bands that have performed there (such as Guns and Roses, Rolling Stones etc.) and then shared how the location was horrid. I felt like I was already too much set on going to this concert, so I didn't listen to their warnings...
- The location was hard to reach by both public transport and car, as it was in a field in the middle of nowhere. They had shuttle buses planned from the most close by parking lot and train station. Now that doesn't sound bad, but...the parking space was incredibly limited, nowhere near the amount of people that would be flocking to the area and the train station was not on the main train lines in the country, meaning that you had to transfer multiple times, no matter where you came from.
- This also meant there were no hotels nearby. There were a couple small ones near the train station, but together they had about 50 rooms. If you add AirBnB and similar places together with it, about 25 rooms extra. Oh, did I mention the concert had 60K+ visitors?
- To rub extra salt in the wound of knowing all of the above ^ upfront, a couple of weeks before the concert would take place, concert management announced that Muse would also perform at a smaller and higher quality venue in the Netherlands. Of course tickets for that one sold out in no time and lots of people were dropping their tickets for the original field concert, to go to the more 'pure' concert instead. This caused the very high ticket prices that were so hard to get before, to tank to prices like $10 and $15 each...
- On the day itself, I was overwhelmed with how overcrowded it was. The cheap prices the tickets would go for in the end really showed in the audience as there were many people that were there just to get drunk. Now, I'm not a purist that expects everyone in a crowd to be 100% fans, but I literally had this couple in front of me at the concert that were having a conversation that seemed like they did not know what genre of music was going to be playing soon...
- The actual location was horrible as well, the grass was already damaged (or damaged in no time because of the people), resulting that you were basically standing in sand...
- As it was an outdoor concert in the middle of the summer (just before we started a new heatwave) and Muse is known for big screens and light shows, for a big part of the concert you could not see what was happening on the screens at all.
- There was also heavy wind, making the sound 'swoop' away a lot as well.
- The heatwave did not start yet, but it was definitely H O T at the location as there was no shade anywhere. The organization did not allow any outdoor drinks and you had to purchase drinks inside. I'm used to expecting overpriced drinks and merchandise at a concert, but with long waiting lines (because of the overcrowding) it was a very big hassle to get drinks at all.
- Oh and once you had all those drinks and needed to go...somewhere? Well, there are a couple of restrooms on the side of the field, with such long lines it was not clear at all where they started and ended. Basically using the restroom was out of the question, unless you wanted to spend the whole concert in a waiting line.
- The band was planned to start quite late, it was at 9PM if I remember correctly, while this is not uncommon for rock bands...the shuttle bus took about 45mins to get to the train station and the last train at the station left at 11:30PM. Even if you had the shuttle bus of 10:45, you would not be able to make it the platform on time, you had to leave the venue at 10:30 latest. No way a rock band will start on time of course, so this meant you had to choose between missing the train and spending the night at the train station (unless you were one of the lucky few with a hotel or parking spot) or you had to leave the concert early. The day after the concert Dutch news websites were filled with articles about the huge mess it was at the train station, with angry people stuck there the whole night that expected that the organization would keep in mind the time of the last train (they didn't). While it was the people their own responsibility to research this beforehand, it's still quite bizarre that the shuttle bus just drops them off at a closed train station and with nowhere to go (except calling a cab and hoping there were enough). Why couldn't they just start the band 1 hour earlier so (almost) everybody would be able to get home safe for the night?
- And the last part was a personal thing: Pokaż zawartość spoileraUkryj zawartość spoileraMy husband left for his new job on the opposite end of Europe a week before the concert. We don't have much overlapping music taste and we were looking very much forward together to go to this concert. The first song Muse played (Psycho) was my husband his favorite as well, he would have loved it.

Muse was at their absolute best and they were amazingggg live, but oh my, was this a disappointing experience overall to attend. I am surprised that the location is still seen as one to commonly have bigger international artists in. I would never suggest anyone to visit a concert at the Goffertpark in the Netherlands...

I guess I should have listened to the warnings of my friends, but on the other hand...the music was amazing and I'm not sure if I'll be able to see Muse again one day. Matthew's voice live is absolutely angelic. For some reason, I can't say I have regrets about this experience, even though it cost me a ton of money and was stressful to attend. Althought I don't think I would have done it if I knew all of this beforehand.

After this wall of text I would almost forget to just show some pictures!

https://i.ibb.co/BqQcbGy/IMG-20190627-210211310.jpg

The first half of the concert was basically like this in the sunlight... The phone actually shows the screens better than my eyes could perceive them.

https://i.ibb.co/ZLRcqnG/IMG-20190628-WA0003.jpg

About 75% in the light show started to look a lot cooler!

https://i.ibb.co/kKN98mP/IMG-20190628-WA0005.jpg

Only at the final songs it started looking super impressive. Such a shame for such a cool set up!

https://i.ibb.co/92Yhhxm/IMG-4027.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/72NDgdQ/IMG-4028.jpg

I of course had to buy the commemorative t-shirt and especially with such cool art it was hard to pass on it.

Now that I have moved to a country with a lot better better venues, I doubt I will ever go through such an experience again the next time I want to see a band I love in concert! Let's hope so!

Another Fangamer shirt!

https://i.ibb.co/r65HR3k/IMG-4097.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/fd1tR8t/IMG-4098.jpg

After previous positive experiences with Fangamer, I decided to buy this Myst t-shirt for my husband. We are both big fans of Myst and it's incredibly hard to find merchandise that isn't just their golden lettering logo.

It also came with a sticker with the same artwork.

https://i.ibb.co/QQJdnWy/IMG-4099.jpg

Fangamer also always throws in some extra's and I got an Undertale sticker and a button where I don't know the origin from. Does someone know? CHIBIREMI let me know it's from "Papers, Please", which is a game I actually own, but didn't play yet, that's why I probably didn't recognize it. ^^''

Unfortunately it looks like I won't be ordering anytime soon from Fangamer again as the new country I moved to has a lot stricter custom rules, not making it worth it to buy there unless I buy in bulk. There are some things I'm interested in (such as their new Resident Evil 3 merchandise), but not enough for a huge order. Maybe in some more time, hoping everything that I like stays in stock...

Tokyo Olympics keychain

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482443.jpeg

I got an unexpected gift of a keychain of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 mascot ENTRY #193749 ! It almost feels like a bit of history to have merchandise aimed at having it take place in 2020. I wonder what they will do, continue to call it the 2020 edition even if it takes place in 2021? Will they make the second '0' on his helmet a '1'?

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482445.jpeg

I used it on my car key, until I sold the car because of my emigration a couple of months later.

Bedsheet

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482447.jpeg

Remember the Shizuku bedsheet ITEM #262095 I got a while ago BLOG #45607 ? It was absolutely perfect to use during the heatwave of 2019!

~New camera!~

I've been wanting to upgrade my compact camera for I-don't-even-know-how-many-years. However, I'm also the type that does not like replacing things that aren't really broken.

So when my trusty Canon IXUS 100IS at 10+ years of age started having issues, which meant in my situation that sometimes pictures would get corrupted, I saw it as a sign to start saving up for the replacement.

https://i.ibb.co/r7tjtrg/IMG-4187.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/stpWRXv/IMG-4188.jpg

I bought the camera at what is sort-of the Dutch version of Amazon, but only for electronics. Their packaging did not impress me, but luckily the camera was unharmed.

https://i.ibb.co/MStWrBS/IMG-4189.jpg

Ta-dah! The Sony Alpha A5100, with it's double lens set edition: 16-50mm (which I wanted for figure photography) and 55-210mm (for outdoors photography).

https://i.ibb.co/q0ZnLZn/IMG-4190.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/0BZjvgc/IMG-4191.jpg

~It's beautiful~

https://i.ibb.co/HVhCyKd/IMG-4192.jpg

The 55-210mm telephoto lens is H U G E .

https://i.ibb.co/nkB1xdy/IMG-4194.jpg

All the accessories: Two types of chargers, cable to connect it to the computer, battery and a cord to wear the camera around your neck. Even though the camera is definitely not that heavy for camera-standards (399 grams with the small lens and 628 grams with the bigger lens), it's a lot more heavy than what I was used to handle (125 grams).

https://i.ibb.co/FWSk7nt/IMG-4195.jpg

The preview screen can be flipped around freely.

https://i.ibb.co/yqSdmHK/IMG-4197.jpg

The first camera charge is always really exciting! This picture is also a good example of why I wanted to upgrade pretty badly: My previous camera really sucked with indoor pictures and pictures with low light conditions, a lot of them would turn out blurry which I would not realize until I saw them on the computer (it's preview screen was so small).

https://i.ibb.co/J54rPWs/IMG-4198.jpg

The cord was something absolutely special to try to attach. YouTube is filled with instruction videos still getting comments from people not being able to get it to work.

https://i.ibb.co/3zGc7FC/IMG-4203.jpg

BIG BOI!

https://i.ibb.co/pK6LnMt/IMG-4246.jpg

When using the smaller lens, the camera looks pretty stylish and is still easy to take with you on days out.

I've been practicing quite a bit in the last few months with figure photography, but I hope that going into a nature area and practice some more with the 55-210mm lens will be possible soon again!

I have been thinking of maybe getting another lens more specifically for macro, but as these are some of the most expensive types, I'll have to think a bit more about it.

New camera try-outs!

I had to take some test pictures with the camera and try out the different options and functions.

https://i.ibb.co/wLjvM7s/DSC00001.jpg

The actual first picture I made with it (it's blurry haha).

https://i.ibb.co/MVQzsx9/DSC00002.jpg

First photo with the telephoto lens (it's also not completely sharp).

https://i.ibb.co/9hmdwN1/DSC00017.jpg

A bit of practice later, the first sharp indoors-picture I made (of my Silent Hill mousepad you might remember from an earlier loot blog).

https://i.ibb.co/17Sk1Bm/DSC00020.jpg

My first light box photos with this camera were like a 'farewell photoshoot' to my previous point and click camera that has been my trusty companion for so many years.

https://i.ibb.co/JnynDJv/DSC00028.jpg

So much usage and so much outdoor trips I have done with it~ You won't be forgotten, my small IXUS!

Actually, I still sometimes use it! It's an easy to grab camera for WIP pictures of cosplay and other crafts I do, without risking getting my new camera dirty or damaged. The corruption issue has also gotten less severe. It's actually been a long time since I've seen it...like it fixed itself once I got my new camera, hrmmm.

https://i.ibb.co/NYKN3yf/DSC00238.jpg

I also managed for the first time to catch falling raindrops on a picture!

New J-Fashion coord

https://i.ibb.co/bFBf2hT/IMG-4274.jpg

I decided to put together a new J-Fashion coord! It included a few new purchases and earlier purchases not yet worn.

I had planned to wear it to a convention in early 2020, but that event ended up being delayed and a few months after that cancelled. Maybe I can wear it to their edition in 2021?

The Good, the Bad and the Queen concert

There was also another concert I went to in 2019, the tour from The Good, the Bad and the Queen their latest album: Merrie Land! The location was also very special, it was at Paradiso, a former church in Amsterdam that is now a music venue.

GBQ is an artrock/alternative rock band, their latest album Merrie Land is more of a cohesent story with in general slower music. Their first album (my personal favorite) mixes up the subjects and speed a bit more. It's defintely a band that deserves multiple listenings, as I remember not being directly impressed when I heard the first GBQ album for the first time, but now it is among one of my favorites. Their music in spoiler: Full playlist for the first album: www.youtube.com... , full playlist for the second album: www.youtube.com... .

If this has not convinced you, the band consists of: Damon Albarn (Gorillaz, Blur), Paul Simonon (the Clash), Simon Tong (the Verve) and Tony Allen (Fela Kuti, Rocket Juice and the Moon). RIP for Tony Allen, it was amazing to see how at his age he was performing (78 at the time of this concert). Gorillaz also made a tribute song to him earlier this year: www.youtube.com... .

The pictures and a small summary of the concert in spoiler: Pokaż zawartość spoileraUkryj zawartość spoilera

https://i.ibb.co/kmwfGwH/IMG-20190606-194157833.jpg

We wanted to be sure to get good seats, so we came early and picked a good place on the balcony. We noticed that the part directly left of us was taped off and venue staff was regularly running back and forth to it. We thought at first it might be something to do with their sound system?

https://i.ibb.co/pvPKHz3/IMG-20190606-194215989.jpg

The supporting act was kept secret until the last day, where they mentioned the name "Dutch Trevor" on the website with 0 explanation and a Google Search not finding anything about this artist as well.

Turns out, that they seemed to have grabbed an organ player from the Amsterdam streets to play as the supporting act?? It was very confusing at first, but it didn't take long for the audience to get very excited! I've heard a lot of organ playing in my life as a Dutch person, but it was a very different experience in a concert venue like this. I wonder if GBQ had any influence on this artist, it does match their type of music, but it felt super random. I expect the actual supporting artists to maybe have dropped and this quick replacement was put there.

https://i.ibb.co/g6fpQPt/IMG-20190606-204142637.jpg

It was almost time for the concert to start and it turned out...the spot on my left was reserved for the string orchestra!!! UNREAL! If I would have wanted I could have literally stretched my arms out to touch them! This is definitely one of the most unique concert experiences I ever had!

https://i.ibb.co/K5vPQc1/IMG-20190606-205001698.jpg

We were also directly above the stage, I think this is also the closest I have ever been to a performing band.

https://i.ibb.co/dcBVL9C/IMG-20190606-210523866.jpg

The band played about 75% of each of their albums. Starting off with the slower Merrie Land and then going to their first (nameless) album.

https://i.ibb.co/pKCCxPG/IMG-20190606-211345026.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/zmy6qPh/IMG-20190607-WA0004.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/M6dLZ2H/IMG-20190607-WA0006.jpg

The location was really a great atmosphere and fitting for the band, it's actually very surprising how small of a venue these incredibly famous people were playing in. I think it has to do with GBQ never actually becoming popular (the music might be a bit too alternative...?), the tickets for this concert eventually sold out, but it took a while to do so.

https://i.ibb.co/0fSvDBm/IMG-20190607-WA0007.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/wwCzLYT/IMG-20190607-WA0008.jpg

Still feels unreal!

https://i.ibb.co/M1zZWVz/IMG-20190607-WA0009.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/J7Fyjy3/IMG-20190607-WA0010.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/C8fZP9x/IMG-20190607-WA0011.jpg

Close to the end of the concert~ It's very strange to me to see these kinds of pictures considering the current state of the world.

https://i.ibb.co/D1tbnD6/IMG-20190607-WA0013.jpg

An instrument also well-used in Gorillaz, I like how Damon Albarn always makes a special moment (also at Gorillaz concerts) to use the melodica.

https://i.ibb.co/x7PLmS0/IMG-20190607-WA0017.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/zNftNWV/IMG-20190607-WA0027.jpg

At the end, the string orchestra handed out their playlists and we managed to get one of them!

Also, if you want to see some higher quality pictures of the concert, here is a review from a music magazine: oor.nl/concerte... , you can almost see the spot where I was seated on the left!

Shortly after this tour ended, GBQ also announced they would be disbanding, making this also their last tour. I'm very happy to have been a part of it!

New fine line pens!

This might not look as exciting for a lot of people, but I was very much looking forward to getting this big fine liner set to use for garage kits and cosplay!

Strike Witches bunny girls

https://i.ibb.co/C2tT7Zy/DSC00240.jpg

A big box had arrived!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482413.jpeg

Inside were three very cute Strike Witches bunny girls:
ITEM #323987
ITEM #323988
ITEM #396977

But unfortunately I had no time to unbox, as I was already packing for my emigration that would take place shortly after. I will cover these figures in a more extensive photoshoot another time!

A rant about the total price I paid and customs in the spoiler: Pokaż zawartość spoileraUkryj zawartość spoileraI bought these figures from a very kind MFC user that wanted them gone fast and gave me a bulk deal including shipping which was about 50% of the aftermarket price in Japan at the moment. Even with the higher shipping costs when shipping from the USA vs Japan and that I would get hugely slapped with a customs bill (for some reason our customs like to charge everything from the USA to a higher degree than items from Japan), it was still worth the price compared to buying it from Japan and paying lower taxes and custom fees.

According to my calculations, including shipping and customs, I would pay about ~80% of the price of buying it from a Japanese store. A great deal, right?

Narrator: But she was wrong

When the package arrived the customs bill was huge way bigger than what I calculated. Unfortunately our customs keep your package hostage until you pay up, so you can't check what is wrong beforehand.

When I got the package, it turned out: The seller had put on the customs form the figures their original retail prices instead of the 50% price I had actually paid for them.

I don't want to name the seller, because this is something I am certain a lot of USA collectors don't realize: How we Europeans get screwed out of crazy customs charges and fees that can only get higher if something is accidentally put incorrectly on the form. Normally I am also way more careful when buying from the USA and give customs instructions to the seller, but I forgot about it in all my excitement on this great deal for the figures...

It's also not worth the time and effort to fight the local customs about this as I have many frustrating stories about how that has gone, of which another wall of text about it you can find earlier in this blog about the two Baccano! straps.

In the end, I ended up paying 150%+ of the price of just having bought them from Japan...sigh.

I am always very scared whenever I buy something from the USA, but this has definitely thrown me off for good. I will only buy something from the USA if I really can't find it in any other place for sale, even if I find such a great deal like this again!

Pre-order Baccano! #11 light novel

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/07/25/2482448.jpeg

My Baccano! light novel 11 ITEM #358989 English translation had arrived!

A synopsis for this novel is a huge spoiler if you haven't watched the anime, otherwise, click to open: Pokaż zawartość spoileraUkryj zawartość spoileraThis novel is a separate story of a part of the cast in 1705, before they received their immortality. I especially liked learning more about Elmer and Huey in this book. However, there is also a 'side story' of a murderer going loose in the town and the conclusion to that story is very...underwhelming. Anyway, it was still a neat read and I'm looking forward to the next one!

To be continued...

And this is where I have to cut it off as we have reached character limit! Next up, I'll continue with September 2019 until the next character limit is hit!

tsukky_1 mies. temu#81208695I have "cheap" Aoba ITEM #116883 and his nendoroid(I have all nendoroids from Dramatical Murder xD). I had Aoba from Native (the most naked version xD)but sold some time ago.
I meant this garage kit but I can't find right now

ITEM #306451
I found tiny garage kit from Granblue Fantasy. By a process of elimination it's probably this ITEM #541914
I'm not sure now but I probably bought it because of low price ^^
I live by the Baltic sea so at least I can swim in sea if weather is nice xD
Yeah. Let's cancel 2020 :D ^^"

"Cheap" Aoba is still very cool! He has been on and off from my wishlist.

That GK is cute! :D Even though it's small the details seem do-able even if you're new to the hobby. :) The other 2 are nice as well, but probably better to practice with that smaller TR one first. ^^ Have fun!

Well, there is a heat wave predicted here for the rest of this week, so let's see.

:( I'm hoping for a lot of things to be better in 2021!

Maakie1 mies. temu#81208573Hello! Aoba was the same for me, if it wasn't for my friend having that damaged duplicate, I would probably have never gotten him. Which small GK do you have, is it also from Aoba? :)
Thanks for the recommendation! I have never visited Poland in general and it's still on my list of countries to visit! :D Too bad to hear about the regulations in your country... Over here the numbers are good, but I'm expecting the worst soon as people were allowed to go on vacations to other countries (which a lot of them did) and they will return soon... :(
Yes, it's indeed a Polish production! A lot of the videos shown at the concert also had Polish subtitles, so I think they originally made it for a Poland tour?
The Detective Pikachu movie was definitely a lot better than I expected! Still not the 'wow Pokémon movie' I hoped for, but it was definitely nice! ^^
Asterix & Obelix recently got released for the first time in the USA, so I hope their recognition will increase! ^^
Same...although I was already planning on going to less events, I am still sad about so much cancelled plans. :( I hope things will be better in 2021.
Ooh, good luck to you there! To be honest, I think it's better not to rush things in the current climate. Let's just act like 2020 never happened...right now I am trying to reschedule my planned visit to my home country + a vacation to the same dates in 2021. Assuming things will be better/over then!

tsukky_1 mies. temu#81054945Finally I stopped procrastinating enough to read your blog Sorry ^^" I look forward to your custom hand for Seragaki Aoba. I considered buying him but prices scared me away. It feels like without chest piece figure could have been cheaper..may be xDD May be if find him for decent price I will get him. I bought a few things for possible customs but I didn't make any next steps. I have tiny garage kit waiting to be glued and painted too somewhere. I admire your patience.
If you enjoyed ruins in Brno you should visit Malbork Castle (Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork) in Poland someday en.wikipedia.or...
I have been sightseeing this castle few times already but I feel still didn't explore it completely. I hope covid-19 will be eliminated soon so I could travel without worries. Unfortunately because of government in Poland I suspect bigger outbreak this fall :<
Witcher Wild Hunt was made in my country-Poland Witcher is series of games I believe? I still feel guilty I didn't play them yet. I bought them and they're waiting for "right moment" xDD
Your sneakers are really cool. I have small foot size. That's why I usually I don't let myself to be picky.
Birthday cupcakes looks yummy. I'm jealous of your cooking skills :D
I saw Detective Pikachu too. I really love that Pikachu has voice of Ryan Reynolds. I love him in Deadpool films <3
I love your bag with Donald Duck. I wasn't aware of collaborations Donald Duck + classical art. Donald Duck and Asterix and Obelix comics and films for example are my early childhood.
I miss meeting my friends from my country who live far away from me at conventions. I love looking around and finding some "gems" and sometimes buying something. I don't usually buy there figures though. They're mostly bootlegs or not something I like. Thankfully I can buy some Japanese sweets on-line from my friend now. It's mostly different flavored kit kats from Japan but I can't complain when they're delicious :D
I'm mad currently because I don't know if I am able to attend postponed concert of Black Veil Brides in Poland. I hope I will find better job till then too but now because of virus it may be hard...
Let's wish for better next year !

mickeydeerho1 mies. temu#81008318Those package customs tax you guys go through are confusing to me as an American...
I have to pay extra to "somebody" on top shipping just to receive my own stuff...

Well the original idea to them is "If we make items outside of Europe more expensive, people will buy more local". This kind of thinking does work when it comes to clothes, most electronics and a lot of generic smaller goods, but it is absolutely killer when you want to buy things that are more niche and/or completely not available for you locally. :(

At least now that I live in Finland I am less mad about taxes, because I feel like they are spend better here than in my home country. :x

victorviper1 mies. temu#81007729Hmm, Eternal Sonata. Probably the best JRPG that I could never really get into. I appreciate that it's a well done game, but for whatever reason, I could never stick with it.
The Myst t-shirt is pretty neat. I wonder how many people these days would recognize the source?

Interesting take, because the game does get high scores everywhere. Well, I don't know when yet, but at one point I will commit to it and see for myself. :)

My husband did get quite some people recognizing it from our friend groups, but well, a lot of us played (and liked) these games. I think it's lost on most of the general public nowadays. :') Btw FanGamer just released a new Myst shirt www.fangamer.co... we are now considering as well. That one is a bit less subtle. ;)

Hehe, so have you become a fan of GBQ now? :D Gorillaz have been announcing tour dates for 2021, so I hope to hear of one near me soon~ and hope concerts can resume normally in 2021 again as well.

It was definitely an experience. xD Be warned as a Dutch person to never go to a concert there!

Thank you! >w< I do think I am going to slow down on conventions in general, even if most/all of them can go on for 2021. I have only 1 planned now, will maybe make it 2.

Yeah I felt that in this blog...I had a lot of long rants to do. xD Next 'random blog' will be focusing more on loot again! :)
