Figma's Izumi Konata!Figma's Izumi Konata!

Hello everyone! Today I will be reviewing my fist ever figma, Izumi Konata!

Izumu Konata is from the 2007 anime hit series, "Lucky Star". I'm sure many older fans remember people dropping everything to dance to the opening song during conventions! Taken from the slice of life, four paneled comedy, the anime follows the lives of four girls, Konata being the main, and probably one of the most relatable characters of the show. Despite her athleticism and smarts, lazy Izumi would much rather watch anime, read manga, and play video games. I've always had a soft spot for this character, so I was happy to see her up on AmiAmi for around 2940 yen. Preowned, with a "C" grade, she was still noted to be unopened with her stand's rusty joints contributing to her low grade. Deciding to take the risk, I ordered her, especially since I've been wanting to own a figma for a while now.

If I recall correctly, I believe newer figma boxes are smaller and more compact in size like their nendoroid counterparts. I thought the packaging was quite nice and I love the scenery, it's a nice touch. I like the layout of the various poses you can put Konata in on the back, alongside with red, faux handwriting notes on it. I also love the front screen of the box that pictures silhouettes of all four girls dancing from their opening, the white silhouette indicating which girl you have.

Konata comes with various hand poses, and her favorite choco bread treat as well!

This was the stand that made her C condition. Can't say I really blame AmiAmi for doing so despite the figure being in perfectly good condition.

Seeing as I've never owned a figma but have several jointed dolls, I wanted to see if the line was as flexible as people said it was. She definitely is! She can even "sit", since her skirt is made of a more rubbery plastic (probably so she can do her dance moves from the opening) but thanks to her hair, it's not easy. Her wrist and feet can rotate and she can somewhat move her head up and down as well(it is also rotatable). Here are some poses I did while fiddling with her.

The sculpt of the figure is pretty good to me. Her clothes and hair stick out to me the most. She has a little piece of hair that can come out and I first thought the hole could also fit the stand attachment. But it's just there to give more dimension to her hair, which I approve of!

They added the little bow of her uniform even though the hair mainly blocks it from view. Little details tell me the sculptor wanted to make the figure as accurate as possible.

As for the paint job, it's not terrible by any means, but parts of Konata's hair and edges of her bow uniform suffer in that department. I haven't been collecting for long but I figured this would happen. It comes with the territory.

MFC has Izumi pegged at 5.07 inches and that seems pretty accurate. Personally, the size of figma's and their prices keep me from getting more. At least nendos, my main focus of collecting, have the cute, chibi factor. Still, the size can lend to figma's charm, and I feel it works well for this figure. Here she is with my SH Figuarts Son Goku, another figure that surprised me in size but I ended up loving immensely anyway.

Here she is next to my Tsugumi nendoroid.

Lastly, here's Konata doing a weird push up thing on top of the only funko pop line I will ever own, Cuphead and Mugman. I thought they matched her sailor uniform and hair pretty well.

As for overall enjoyment? I'm really happy with this purchase! Konata will always be a fun, cute, and nostalgic character for me. The figure is super fun to pose and photograph, and I'm pleased to have a figma in my collection now. The only real complaint I have is that her bangs and first face plate have a real hard time staying on. I believe the age of of the figure contributes to that so I'm not too bothered by this. But I am brain storming ways to fix that (share if you yourself have any solutions to the problem, I'd love to here them).

Here's goodbye from me, Konata, and Mugman and Cuphead being creepers in the back. See you next time and thanks for reading!

AlexChama (3 mies. temu) #62360633Super glue is super bad for plastics. I wouldn't ever let it near any of my figures.

Thanks for the heads up!

Moomoogirl1 (3 mies. temu) #62360359Thanks for the advice! I've used the super glue trick on store brand dolls but I was weary of using glue on my more expensive figures. I'll try the nail polish trick on her later. Thank you for reading!

StephieHerbert (3 mies. temu) #62356413For loose pegs (including the peg attachment for the bangs), you can add a thin layer of something. Many people use clear nail polish. Just add a thin layer and let it dry completely and see if that fixes the issue. If not, add another layer and so on. Some people also use super glue in thin layers as well, but I think nail polish is better for your first time.
Great review! I think figma are a lot of fun!

Corrupted_Sorrow (3 mies. temu) #62255559My first and only Figma, too. But I´ve got her a little while after release, in a con. I don´t know where I stored her, really. I like the sculpting and posing, but if I´m not mistaken, mine has other defect, don´t remember which one exactly. It´s been a long time.
Nonethless, she´s cute for sure.

I have this funny image of your Konata hiding somewhere playing games all day now lol

And yeah, I was really surprised how much I liked her sculpt. Definitely an oldie but a goodie.

solluxcaptor (3 mies. temu) #62344816Nice review! It made me want to buy her too. Unsure if intentional but you're using the base backwards though, she's meant to stand on the flat part.

Thank you so much! I really do recommend her.

And yeah that was intentional. I sometimes do that with my nendos too because I like to pretend they can stand on their own. Though we all know that's usually not the case haha
