! There is a wall of text in the beginning! If you want to see the figure + pictures and not the background information, you can scroll down a bit. ;) !

This is a review of a figure in an outfit that can be considered NSFW as it's a tight-fitting bodysuit-like outfit!

Welcome to my review! Today I will be talking about a figure of Pastel Ink ENTRY #3741 from the series Moetan ENTRY #192 ! This figure ITEM #992 is made by Kotobukiya ENCYCLOPEDIA #7621 and is specificaly her TV Color Version.

I will start off with telling some more about her background.

Background

Moetan is originally a series of (joke) English learning books. If you want to see some of the contents of these books, you can look at this older loot blog of mine: BLOG #25997 . The popularity of these books, later also spawned an anime. The anime is a parody on the magical girl and loli genres and is very recommendable if you want a good laugh while looking at cute characters.

Ink is a young looking girl, although she is 17, and later 18 in the end of the series. She has a huge crush on a boy called Nao. When the chance comes around for her to become a magical girl and transform into another version of herself with different hair color and cute magical girl outfit, she grabs this chance to become close with Nao, without Nao ever realizing that this 'alter ego' Pastel Ink, is actually the Ink he goes to school with.

The reason why and how I got her

I bought this Ink a long time ago, when I was temporary living in a small apartment and had all my figures in storage. I had to look through old invoices to remember what I paid for her and when I bought her! I paid 2,200 yen and she was bought in 2015 from Yahoo! Auctions. I don't remember the exact details from back then anymore, but I probably thought it was too good of a price to pass up for a scaled Ink figure and I bought her, even though I knew she was going to be in storage for a couple more years.

There is no specific artwork the figure is modelled after, but above artwork comes pretty close with posing.

However, as mentioned in the item description, we are looking at her 'TV color version', which means she is colored after her anime looks (which can be seen above), instead of the more pastel looks from her original artist POP ENTRY #8335 . There is also an version existing for her Original Color version: ITEM #83691 . The TV Color version has a bit of an 'harder' look when it comes to bright colors used.

Her previous owner wrapped her up in what looks like transparant kitchen foil, but it protected the figure well!

The box is full with adorable looking artwork from the anime series and I love the speech bubble window on the side!

Something that surprised me though, is that Ink her staff is in the 'wrong' colors on the box. I wonder if this was an older idea/design for the anime and the ended up changing it in the final version?

The top of the box is sealed with one round sticker. Although I bought the figure pre-owned, this one was never opened.

Like most other moetan items, there is a 'Approved by Pastel Ink Cheering Party' printed license sticker. I would have loved it if they had made these loose stickers...

I was surprised to find quite some English text at the bottom of the box, especially because I bought a Japanese version of the figure. The Moetan anime was licensed in the USA pretty early on, so I assume there was this license deal about it's merchandise which included the English information also being printed on the Japanese boxes their first releases.

I was surprised to find another item in the box! Although the top of the box had some artwork showing learning cards, I didn't think they would actually be included!

I was slightly disappointed when I noticed the cards were empty, I was hoping on them being filled with sentences to learn from the books!

The backside does give an example of this, though!

I think the learning cards are an cute extra, that are completely fitting with the theme of the series, so I love them being included!

Ink's blisters are of quite an old-fashioned design, but they hold the figure well.

Ink comes in two pieces: The main figure and her base. Nowadays Kotobukiya mainly screws their figures stuck on the base, so this surprised me a bit.

She can be displayed holding the learning cards, which is a very cute look, but probably not how the manufacturer intended it to be. I wouldn't recommend displaying her for a long time like this, due to the weight of the cards.

My first impression of the figure was that she was absolutely adorable! She has lovely and cute posing, and the composition of this figure with the big movement in the ribbons is very nice!

Looking at all the details!

This figure might look a bit 'aged', but that doesn't take away how adorable she is! That cute pointing finger to the face, and her wink, I love it so much! There is quite some sculpt visible in the winking eye as well and I'm glad they didn't shy away from putting a big bunch of blush on her cheeks!

The bangs at the front of her hair show some issues. It's quite visible that two halves have been put together and have not been completely sanded down before painting.

Ink wears her signature Ah-kun ENTRY #3744 shaped hat, and what I really like here is a detail that is forgotten by a lot of other Pastel Ink figures: You can see from the side how the hat tucks away behind her hair. The hat itself has some minor paint defects.

The hair has quite a bit more shading than you might expect from such an old figure. I really think her pigtails are looking adorable here! Again, also here are some minor scuffs and issues with paint to be expected from a figure this age.

The hand sculpt of both hands is a bit simple, but it does it's work. I like how tight fitting the ribbons around her armsleeves look and the ruffles it creates at her wrists. The sleeves also have some paint scuffs that were pretty common on figures during this era.

Ink's sailor collar is simple, but decently painted. Her green gem on her chest is implemented by every figure manufacturer differently. Some make it a green ball, others an actual see-through gem. With the color palette of this figure, the heavy green looks pretty good.

We can't forget the sukumizu-style bodysuit Ink wears! There are quite some details sculpted here and some shading around the crotch-area gives extra attention to the sewing lines sculpted in the outfit.

The general movement and sculpt of the small ribbons looks good, although the parts where the ribbons come together looks a bit clunky. The shading on the ribbons has been painted nicely.

The back of Ink's bodysuit shows quite some detail as well. You can see here that the legs were sculpted seperately and attached later.

Both in the different figures and in POP's artwork, the thickness from Ink's legs range quite a bit, this might be my Ink with the thinnest legs!

The legs themselves are nicely posed. The white stocking on the right leg looks a bit weirdly thick, though. On the back of the left leg, my specific copy of this figure has a white paint spot.

Pastel Ink's characteristic clunky boots are decently sculpted and painted for the figure's age. I like how there are some wrinkles sculpted at the middle part of the shoe. Although I don't know if it was ever confirmed, I always thought that was the main velcro part holding the shoes together.

Ink's base is very simple, it's a big, transparant disc telling the copyright markings. The base seems to hold the figure well, but I wouldn't be surprised if this figure becomes an leaner over time, due to the older and lower quality PVC, combined with her practically posing on one foot.

The Points

Positive
- Adorable posing
- Quite good paint and sculpt for her age
- Easy to find cheap
- Comes with an unexpected bonus item: the learning cards

Neutral
- Debatable, but I'm predicting this figure might become a leaner when displayed for a longer time.

Negative
- The figure looks a bit 'aged', with some details not as crisp as you might want and some parts looking a bit 'dirty'
- Really boring base

The Scores

Sculpting 7/10
Nice sculpting, but there are a bit of letdowns here and there.

Painting 8/10
Better painting than I expected, especially with the shading.

Posing 8/10
Very cute and in-character, lovely composition.

Base 6/10
Can't say much than 'it holds the figure up'. I hope it won't let her lean over time.

Packaging 8/10
Very cute and colorful, fitting for the series.

Bonus item: The learning cards 8/10
I was happily surprised to find a bonus item in the box of this figure. The learning cards are very fitting for the theme of the series, it would have been nice if they had been printed with English sentences.

Enjoyment 8/10
Even with her being a bit of an older release, I got her for a really good price and she is overall adorable. She is a nice addition to my Moetan collection!

Conclusion

Recommended for all Moetan fans! If you're not a fan of Moetan, but just in general like her outfit, she might be good to pick up as well as long as you don't mind the slightly 'aged' look of this figure.

Availability

Originally released for ¥4,200 , she now regularly comes up on second hand sales websites for ¥2K-¥4K. Her original color version ITEM #83691 seems even more available, although it goes for a bit higher prices of ¥3,5K-¥4,5K. Still a very affordable price, especially with the yen value nowadays! The cheap price and decent quality of this figure have made me recently order her Nijihara Ink ITEM #738 counterpart in this line!

And to finish it!

I am currently still unboxing most of my collection after having most of them in storage for a while, but here is how she is displayed right now:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/dtT7Cb9mqwqzIhU6VtpT6SA6bF93pNCVKx5JtVylgVXMBWx8prsAzVhOJu7pItt0QlDtEBx15neZsotzvjaxLN07kxXtZFZ7cB4Vk4qJ3-baUehta3s_BWUGt9D3L-TLayaQgMx3WaFRdQjq2Xvvkgyd8H6ZYOuHkm4zQcibuhmjeIZnIevJ5vRLCRb0h9uL0qrcqEPvv8EkiwpFB-mwr77WYYWoX-REs7HClf-e9T6_guDpqEEi_BgEMPPVXU4wqsmlbFe4-RD3d0-kURwF1yE9ETQMcs-SUZNRIk-o8VXfrz_4lZFITmeGwUeLu02l550Rei1dLLRZF7cbw46SZqSEHiwC1ImTWslvEOQ0g4WCzvsF9UdQgiOXPLw6waMrdgSByilnjh28IT0gKt5xAzhQ6fqnMjBW1Nl0RXNpj7wvzCFdKPYtCWBm0YjfrxeKW6fROYw3heqNpiD_fw1WpPJYyc81_6jdcLeLdcXfRwzlI4lZZdqJ42YEO0LnUFheU77EuHu6IR-4F6-lXEnv6JShiQ-MGiP3HAUfRjNG-KO5p0vB-lb0VAyY6dBH_NxEp-vRgw6_GL0n1Gxno_hWJrxogA_Tut0Z36PUhhbIgbZrRxhMfREuERI9wD49tOkA0zSVIA8cuOV02P_8CSWQCCXTNcULlOo=w1288-h966-no?.jpg

Even though I didn't recommend it earlier in this review, I couldn't help but display her with the learning cards. I'm going to keep an eye out if it will create any leaning issues.

For those who read all this way, thank you! My next review will be about Cospa's Hideyoshi ITEM #26243 , an quite debated figure which I'm looking forward to talk more in depth about. I don't know when yet, but I also want to make an review of this more adult-looking Ink-figure in a while: ITEM #3835 , hope everyone is looking forward to that as well!

I hope you enjoyed this review, you could also check my other figure reviews when interested! Here are a few of my recent ones:

Seravy (27 d. temu) #62402225I have one displayed, got her about 10 years ago and no leaning still. Don't worry about that!
A really nice figure for a very reasonable price, definitely recommended.

Nice to hear that she probably won't be a leaner, thanks for letting me know. I'm also always happy to read when people are enjoying their older figures <3

victorviper (27 d. temu) #62405104Box wrapped in cling film - that's a new one, although I'm not sure that was a good move by her previous owner. It reminds me of when I got ITEM #1250 and her figure box came wrapped in plastic; you could tell the box had been wrapped that way for a long time, and the figure had started to leach plasticizer as a result. Fortunately, it looks like you didn't have that issue.
The cards are a little weird, particularly since they are so large relative to the size of Ink herself. If they were all printed with little phrases, then the large size would make sense. But if she's supposed to be displayed holding them, it seems like it would have made more sense to make them much smaller.

Oh...egh, have not thought about that. I guess the wrapping could make the temperature for the figure inside rise more, thus meaning it could bleed plasticizer...

The cards are the actual size of flash cards to be used in person, it's not meant to display the figure with them (as far as I know), it's just something I personally liked to do with the figure. :) I think Koto included it as a bonus for personal use.

bonbonhime (27 d. temu) #62427304I always love your reviews <3 She's definitely super adorable despite her age! I haven't had a chance to open my original color version - I hope she comes with the cards too! That's such a fun surprise!

Thank you for enjoying my review! :) And ooh! You have the original color version! I'm curious if that one is a bit less 'dirty' compared to the colors of this one. If you still remember this review when you get to unboxing her, I would like to know. :) I'm also curious if you have the (same) flash cards!
