Garage Kit: Suzuhara Misae by Cherry BlossomGarage Kit: Suzuhara Misae by Cherry BlossomDiary

Happy New Year, MFC! Finishing a garage kit is a great way to start a new year so here I am.

Warning: this post is mostly boobies and naked boobies, painted with love and care by me. Picture heavy so proceed at your own risk.

My recent work is a roughly 1/8 scale bust of Suzuhara Misae or Misa-nee, a hentai manga character designed by Raita.

Misa-nee is on the left~

I always wanted a figure of her but for one reason or another it never worked out so in the end I got this garage kit from Y!J shortly after 2017 summer WonFes.

She turned out nicely cast in pure white resin so here I am, painting another figure without primer. I did some pinning this time and even used magnets for her arms, hair and boobies~ No real reason for those I just like magnets more than pins.

Skintone is Gaianotes surfacerless flesh pink + orange with a correction layer of clear white and a drop of initial skintone mix. Blushing is done with solo pink mix. Got to love blushing and shading with an airbrush, I swear I feel very much reluctant to do pastel shading ever again. Airbrush is just so much more fun!

I put WIP pics under spoiler for those who are interested~

Next stage is the face, I've been following many Japanese GK artists on Twitter and picked up some neat tricks with gloss lacquers and Tamiya enamels. Also spent an inappropriate sum on Tamiya HG fine brushes and I don't regret this investment one bit.

I used two cheater techniques here since I use lacquers. You see, Tamiya X-20 thinner doesn't do a thing to lacquer surface. So I spray white Tamiya enamel right on her face and then just wipe away the excess with a q-tip dipped in X-20.

I then sealed the whites with gloss and continued drawing her eyes with the very same Tamiya enamels. I mean, those new Tamiya HG brushed I got are incredible but even the slightest errors I can fix with a q-tip and a drop of X-20! I shall admit I had a lot of fun and very little sweat with her eyes just knowing I can wipe it off and start againg without repainting the whole piece!

And this is probably the cleanest job I did on the eyes ever.

Meanwhile (I mean, while skintone dried) I painted other parts of the kit. Mixed some paints, I'm proud I can do cute pastels now on a whim from the first try, how cool is that~

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2018/01/06/1897014.jpeg

Her hair is a massive two-piece that finishes the bust composition and kinda frames her sexy physique nicely~ This I painted in several steps including base tone, shading, more base tone, more shading and highlights, including the halo similar to what he has on Raita's arts. Sealed with semi-matte varnish to imitate the flow of heavy raven black hair~

Her smaller parts are arms, wings, collar and breast censorship parts. I used the same Tamiya enamel trick to quickly bring out the carved detailes of the kit. Looks rough at points but I like the results~

Holy crap. This looks like an official prototype or something, you have serious skill! I look forward to seeing any other kits that you plan to do.

I really like that you chose a very light colour to bring out the lines/highlights in her hair, it makes the details pop!

DonkeyBlonkey2 l. temu#30891961Interesting. I have a Charagumin kit and it recommends I use Vallejo Acrylics, so I'm not sure after cleaning the mold release off each piece, I need to use a primer before applying the Vallejo Acrylics.
Yeah, you need primer with Vallejo otherwise it will peel in a matter of days..

I have no idea why they recommend these for garage kits - I mean, Vallejo is great for miniatures and anything that's onepiece but this paint is too delicate for kits made of many parts, scratches and damages and trasfers easily even sealed. I mean, most aqueous paints do that but Vallejo is especially notorious for being too delicate even though their pigment is awesome.

If you want paint that's not stinky and useable for brushes you might as well get any artistic brand like Pebeo or Createx or Americana or any other model paint like Mig or AK or Scale75 or Citadel - whichever's easier to get for you, really. All of these are good for kits!

If mildly stinky is allright and you plan to use an airbrush, Tamiya and Mr Hobby Aqueous are best. Here primer is somewhat optional, they stick well to the surface.

If very stinky's okay and you plan to use an airbrush then I suggest heavy lacquer stuff like Gaia and Mr Color, these do not require primer for sure :3

it makes me want to attempt one of my kits. i bought it but have been to scared to start lol

Thank you!

Don't be shy, kits are fun even if you do something wrong. The main thing with resin kits is that you can fix almost anything :3

ponnie2 l. temu#30878456Mr Color is usually in small bottles and is intended for airbrush use (you don't want to brush it, really, it dissolves some synthetic brushes). Thus small bottles. It can't be used out of the bottle, such stuff needs thinning, ratio being thinner to paint 50/50 or even 60/40 and more, depending on how old the paint is, it tend to get more gooey with time.
I'd say, a 10 ml of gloss takes you a long way.
Tamiya clear lacquer should be also fine, it's just a different brand.
Mr Super Clear only recently released as a bottle, most times you see it in a spray can. I actually bought a bottle and decanted it for airbrush use, I like more control over varnish than a spray can does. But if you see a ready bottled one, get it. It also needs thinning before use. UV and regular work the same safe for additional UV protection (against paint fading and such). However smooth and flat, Mr Super Clear whitens darker surfaces heavily so keep that in mind, for darker surfaces you might want another sealant.

Ok, thanks...and one quick question on the Mr. Super Clear... I don't see where it says if this stuff is Lacquer based or not, so after you decant it, what are you using to thin it? Is the same true for both the matte/flat can as well as the gloss version they have?

(If I mentioned this one in my PM as well, feel free to ignore one...sorry!)

THANKS!!!

Stacycmc2 l. temu#30875511Hello!!!
I sent you a PM but think you answered one of my questions for someone else in these comments.... but that led me to more questions (so sorry).
For the gloss coat used in the eye trick - Mr. Color Clear Gloss - is that a spray can or bottle? I can only seem to find super tiny bottles (10-18 ml). This doesn’t seem like very much at all.... is that what you buy and spray it as-is with your airbrush?
Also, does it have to be Mr Color? There is a gloss in the Mr Super Clear and I think also a Tamiya Clear Lacquer....are those maybe weaker to the x20 or do they work just as well?
Then, for the matte coat you apply after - Mr Super Clear Flat - is that a spray can or what/how do you get this and apply it typically? Is the UV kind ok, or should I stick with the regular?
Again...so sorry for all the questions, and thank you for all your help!!! Perhaps I should start calling you Sensei!!!! :-D
