As a huge fan of Hello Kitty and figures, I was very happy when I heard about the "Hello Kitty to Issho" project. Even more when I found out that one of my favorite artitst, POP, also made multiple designs for it.

Unfortunately, I live very small (trying to find a new place to live for almost 2 years now...) and don't have enough space to buy every figure I want. That's why I decided to not start collecting from this series...but only until one day, when randomly browsing the internet I saw a Hello Kitty to Issho figure for a very reasinable price on Mandarake and I just couldn't help myself! >.<

It was the Minase Shizuku prize-figure from POP. I ordered her with the speed of light and about 2 weeks later she arrived. There were a lot of positive and negative points about her and she seemed interesting enough for a review, so here we go!

Note that she is a PRIZE figure so the price and quality are lower than those of scaled figures!

Also, I'm a huge fan of loli's, Hello Kitty, flat chests and POP's drawings, just so you know. xD

Let's start with looking at the box she arrived in:

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-fESzbNB445M/T9zMvxzuHWI/AAAAAAAABFw/CeNg9a7hbBc/s640/IMG_5444.JPG

Front: Just one very big window, not very much to see here.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-53nRyOVZ56I/T9zMxQ9lhJI/AAAAAAAABF4/Qghj1SBYSfg/s640/IMG_5445.JPG

Right-side: The original illustration from POP where this figure was based of together with some apple pie. Looks very cute!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-S38FaIccvFU/T9zMzrHgdkI/AAAAAAAABGA/Wey-YwBIXzI/s640/IMG_5446.JPG

Backside: Another illustration of Minase Shizuku from POP, here we see her washing her...ehm...shoes while looking very cute with all the Hello Kitty-things around her!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-sCHOYVEfIVM/T9zM0Y3sY6I/AAAAAAAABGI/Vm9sNoVaMOE/s640/IMG_5447.JPG

Left-side: A zoom-in from POP's art.

And now a view around her:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hh5VdItgx08/T9zMWpU4oDI/AAAAAAAABCs/6quR7r7E-BM/s640/IMG_5419.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-4_MyEP65efw/T9zMXjd6tlI/AAAAAAAABC0/ukmLi7QoWeQ/s640/IMG_5421.JPG
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Ag2JR70tsbQ/T9zMYQq4spI/AAAAAAAABC8/Cg9Rjv1PoNc/s640/IMG_5423.JPG

She really has a strange "floating" right hand. It really looks like she is supposed to lean on something.

And now, let's take a closer look at multiple parts!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PsK6URPz9sU/T9zMaoQkcvI/AAAAAAAABDM/hfATM8ysJ8g/s912/IMG_5424.JPG

A closer look on her face. The first thing I noticed is her skin colour...it looks pretty...off. It is a sort a strange pinkbrown-ish. It doesn't look like a real possible skin colour, so I get she is a little bit tanned? It also doesn't look like paint, so I'm afraid that this is the undercoat/original material colour.
After that I noticed her eyes, it looks like a blank stare, instead of the cute side-looking eyes in POP's illustration.
POP is known for drawing very big heads and her head is still big...but too small for POP's style.
Also...her head doesn't tilt...so she's looking at the ground...I strongly recommend her to be put on a high space, because otherwise you will never look at her face.
Luckily after that, I noticed her blushes! How cute! How many times I have seen figures that should have blushes and those were removed! *cough* ITEM #61484 *cough* Very cute detail! Strange thing is, she wasn't supposed to have blushes, but it really looks good!
Also, the awesome different shades of pink in her hair! That's very nicely painted for a Prize-figure! Too bad about the strange spot in her hair, though.
And then...the cute Hello Kitty clothing! Cute glasses, a bra/bikini-top shaped like Hello Kitty and so on. I wish I had those clothes!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-cA2TF1Nuwcs/T9zMa-fCyvI/AAAAAAAABDQ/5khV0Rf6_BI/s912/IMG_5425.JPG

Very cute midriff, also very detailed, didn't expected that. Cute skirt with details, but too bad, the paint isn't done properly at the bra (you can see it very good from this angle).

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-gbxhob-Bcl8/T9zMboXgz0I/AAAAAAAABDU/EWdlqNERr34/s912/IMG_5426.JPG
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-5eo49-9IHAs/T9zMeeVmP8I/AAAAAAAABDo/vdDUlVPPOos/s912/IMG_5428.JPG

All those cute bows on her skirt~! It looks like one is missing, but that is a part of the design! Also, you can notice her skin. Well, it is very..."shiny". Her skin is already not the right colour, so it doesn't care a lot to me.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-yhjZ4rpScy8/T9zMdo2ik2I/AAAAAAAABDk/muY1dzkpzQQ/s912/IMG_5427.JPG

Her bow-watch looks very good. Also, you can see one of the negative points from here very well, the "spot" in her hair (I'm afraid of removing it myself, because the paint would possibly fade away and then she has a white/brown spot in her hair. >.>)

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MBCyb7nJzyQ/T9zMg3JfuQI/AAAAAAAABD8/X4ff6lNc4NQ/s640/IMG_5430.JPG

Her legs have the right pose and she really looks hopping/jumping, just as in the illustration! The only bad thing here is...

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-GUksFpYRCxQ/T9zMhk4ISSI/AAAAAAAABEA/Lb53WuAR2T8/s912/IMG_5432.JPG

...this. On both her shoes, the bow was painted very roughly. Those small flaws with both the colours blue at the shoes are acceptable, but I'm seriously considering the paint the bows by myself so it looks better.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Fb3t4wuJ8kg/T9zMirfE-OI/AAAAAAAABEM/gLCC762N3-g/s640/IMG_5433.JPG

Yes, Minase, we are going to look at your hair! Notice how little there is visible of the seamline in her hair! A lot of scale-figures have bigger seamline-problems than her!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-VwhPkHuhFhw/T9zMlCitinI/AAAAAAAABEc/DU3sUxZc8h0/s912/IMG_5434.JPG

There is a little black dot on the glasses, but overall they are painted pretty good.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-R2wwcEN4z9g/T9zMlSnQACI/AAAAAAAABEg/DiHZiZdKF4M/s912/IMG_5435.JPG
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dVrkrJ7RLxI/T9zMl62T6lI/AAAAAAAABEo/IZHpa3_teGk/s912/IMG_5436.JPG
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uKPd50LfrqU/T9zMn0y33eI/AAAAAAAABE0/bBUBuTfnjHM/s912/IMG_5437.JPG

Then, onto her tail! They added an effect to let it look like fur. To be honest I don't know if I like it or not, it adds some extra dimension, but I don't think it looks a lot like fur.
Transistion from her tail to her skirt looks good!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-su31SFvMuUc/T9zMo9juqWI/AAAAAAAABE4/TguVcqH_13s/s912/IMG_5438.JPG

Her hoodie around her neck. I want one like that! TT^TT

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-gzQYSlGCWBA/T9zMq8lqLWI/AAAAAAAABFQ/_Ug1oNan1YI/s912/IMG_5440.JPG

The seamlines at her arms are pretty big, but you can't see them from a distance. Still, I'm pretty surprised to see seamlines over there, not even one of my figures has that type of seamlines at their arms! Oh well, let's be happy you don't see it much.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-oXjitNLQANw/T9zMsJEJ8PI/AAAAAAAABFY/tQ3WNQp3900/s912/IMG_5441.JPG

The transition from her midriff to her skirt is pretty loose, but only visible if you look at her from above.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hh5VdItgx08/T9zMWpU4oDI/AAAAAAAABCs/6quR7r7E-BM/s640/IMG_5419.JPG

And we also have to look at the base in a review. This part makes me really sad. Just LOOK at the base. It is strangely shaped, ugly and she is screwed onto it. I just have no words for this monstrosity.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-p0s1Zl73Pdc/T9zMs3IYeZI/AAAAAAAABFc/xjWUSEiLnkc/s640/IMG_5442.JPG

"B-b-b-but I'm still cute, right?"
Yes Minase, you're still very cute, but you have some flaws!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hh5VdItgx08/T9zMWpU4oDI/AAAAAAAABCs/6quR7r7E-BM/s640/IMG_5419.JPG http://myanimeshelf.com/upload/dynamic/2011-07/26/OhnoRaptors13006915962.jpeg

If you put her illustration next to her art, you get a very different figure from the original material. For me, it is a negative, but I think some people that aren't fan from POP would think of it as such a big problem.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-n2xoDVh9NK0/T9zM1qT48NI/AAAAAAAABGY/mB67FoAXO98/s640/IMG_5449.JPG
I fixed the "floating hand" problem by placing her like this. The controller also leads the attention away from her ugly base! :)

And now, on to her points!

Sculpting 9/10
A lot of cute details, very neat seamlines! Only minus is the "spot" in her hair. Overall, nicely done for a Prize-figure!

Painting 7/10
A lot of parts weren't painted very well, but it is still a prize figure, so it is to be expected a little bit.

Posing 7/10
Realy cute posing, but doesn't match the original illustration a lot. The pose is very dynamic and she really looks like running/hopping, trying to get your attention! Big negative is that she always looks at the ground.

Base 3/10
I'm very generous giving that horrible thing a 3. The only way it could have been even worse was if it was bigger.

Packaging 9/10
Really cute box, especially the backside with another drawing from POP!

Enjoyment 8/10
I am still very pleased with her. She is cute, she has a nice body, she doesn't have much seamlines and so on. I expected the quality not to be perfect, because she is a Prize-figure, but it saddens me that she doesn't have the playfullness/cuteness of the original illustration.

Summary, or tl;dr

Positive
- Hello Kitty! :D
- Those cute blushes!
- That loli-body!
- Very little seam-lines.
- Really everything on her is Hello Kitty-style! It looks so great together!
- Art from POP on the packaging!

Neutral
- Her "awkward floating" hand, can be easily ignored if you put something else close to her.
- The "blank stare" in her eyes.
- She's always looking at the ground.
- Skin is shiny.
- "Fur"-effect on her tail.

Negative
- Skin colour
- "Spot" in her hair (this may differ from every piece).
- Paint isn't very neat at all places.
- Doesn't look a lot like POP's orginal illustration.

adorablerocket6 l. temu#2324446I take everything too seriously, it's what I do!
I enjoyed Magical Girl Komugi - basically just because of Komugi. She's one of my favorite characters from one of my favorite designers. She's basically a parody of all that is moé-moé, and at the same time is super appealing and fun.
I can see how POP's original Moetan does the same thing, but I found the anime to be too full of filler and straight ecchi. I'm sure those weaknesses are there in Magical Girl Komugi as well, but she's such an amazingly well executed and memorable character that she totally overshadows the show and it's failings.
In general I find that Aiko Wanatabe's work translates very well to anime. His illustration style just loves the graphic short cuts required for hand animation. Super graphic, super stylish, super cute! It's a real heir to traditional woodblock printmaking. Soultaker is still the best in my opinion, but Bakemonogatari renders his characters very well also.
I know that feeling. When I was younger I bought small figures and trinkets instead of saving up properly for nice things...
P.S. I was in Akiba yesterday at Radio Kaikan and I saw a few actually nice Moetan scale figures. They reminded me to go finish this conversation... and also not to buy things just 'cause I like them and the price is good!

I also love Komugi, because...she is Komugi! I didn't like the SoulTaker anime when it comes to the story, but I just fell in love with her as a character! Then later on she also got her own (parody) anime and I loved it to bits! There can't be enough Komugi for me!

And haha, indeed to me, Moetan does the same thing! I do have to agree with you there that Komugi is a way more memorable character than Pastel Ink will ever be when it comes to personality. I think that I am more interensted in Moetan as an anime, but I when it comes to character I like Komugi more! ^^

When it comes to (animation) style, the Soultaker shows Aiko Wanatabe's style the best, but to me the story was just...eh, which is why I can't call it one of my favorites. I here have to shamefully admit I still didn't start watching Bakemonogatari, although I have been wanting to watch it for years! I'm also a fan of NisiOisiN's writing (especially Zaregoto and and the Death Note novel), so it's really because of lack of time I didn't start on it yet!!! D: Shame on me! D:

Yeah I used to be the type that would get tempted way too quickly with buying lots of small items, so I could never properly save up to buy any bigger items...but now I have my priorities better and I have been looking in a very serious way at my collection the last few years!

Moetan has quite a lot of nice scaled figures! I'm currently not actively "hunting" them, but I want to expand my Moetan-collection for sure! (I'm so jealous of jou being in Akiba hahah! I hope that is possible for me in the future too!)

Hrmm, I think actually you have taken Moetan too seriously! ;) Even if you look at the name, it's supposed to be a parody. It even jokes in some episodes about how you should never use the English you "learn" in the series! To me it's just like how Nurse Witch Komugi is a parody on (cosplay)idols. (Not sure if you've seen that series, but I think it's so cute!) I have to admit btw that I think in animated form, so far I haven't seen a series that has represented POP's art as cute as his artwork and figures based on his art. Looks like it's quite hard to get his interesting artstyle right.

Maakie6 l. temu#2320116it's actually that when I was younger and had my first paying job (when still living with my parents) I spend almost everything on small items and trading figures.

adorablerocket6 l. temu#2317577Actually I think POP's Kittlyer has more sexiness going on, especially because of her being in a lot less clothes and only a bra at the top. But POP's style is so cute, that even when he makes very ecchi stuff, it still looks so innocent and not perverted at all. (I guess you have also seen Moetan? I love how that series can still remain so cute and nice without getting overly perverted.)
Yeah that Nekomura is expensive. @.@ That's why I have been holding back to buy her. I like her a lot, but I want to focus more on other things I like to collect more, of which some are also cheaper.
As an Art History major I have to laugh - it's always up the the viewer how the final artwork combines with your experience and context to create a unique impression!
I personally find POP's to be quite innocent, despite showing a lot of skin. To me it looks like a swimsuit, and because it's for a child it's actually quite modest with the little skirt.
I was just remembering that I *had* seen Moetan and was feeling bad about what a total waste of time and brain cells it had been... I think I was tempted into watching it because I find POP's source material illustrations *super cute*, but the otaku focused work that gets created - from anime to figures - is actually pretty rotten. Yesterday I remembered I bought a bag of Moetan figures on some trip because I was so excited to pick up something ... but ... now I wish I'd just invested in his fairy tale books!
It's actually liberating to properly catalog everything I've picked up on MFC because it's helping me realize what I want to focus on and what I like and would want to display... I should just make a list of all those figures that I *like*, but don't *wish* for!

Haha, yes that is true! :P Interesting how you say it looks like a swimsuit to you, because to me it always felt more like a bra and a skirt. xD POP indeed has a lot of innocent art, but when you think about it, his characters show quite a lot of skin or are in very tight-fitting clothes.

Haha, I'm currently still busy with adding everything to my profile! Seems like we did a lot the same when we were younger...but with me, it's actually that when I was younger and had my first paying job (when still living with my parents) I spend almost everything on small items and trading figures. Only recently I have been looking into everything and slowly putting things up for sale. :P

adorablerocket6 l. temu#2314671Ughh... not just that. The combination of crazy ruffle platform boots, and garters too put it in a weird place where I can appreciate the cuteness, but there's too much overt and intentional sexiness going on. I don't mind sexy cute, I just don't want to collect it, and now that I think about it, it'd be even weirder to display with POP's innocent cute.
I mostly buy used in Japan or Taiwan or on Ebay, and just end up pr-eordering on Ami Ami or Hobby Search. On Ebay at least there's a bunch of Mikans, but the cheapest is $70 USD!
Hmm... you know I'm glad I had this chat, because now I'm convinced I want to let Shizuku and Iroha find another home. Selling online is such a pain, but I do need to start putting some structure and limits on my collections.

I also thought the garters were very out of place, especially because she is not really in an "sexy" outfit. I sold mine, because I bought one pre-owned and it turned out to be missing her hairpiece (so she had a hole in the back of her head). -.-' I'm not sure if I will buy another (complete) one of her again, I first actually want to get their scaled ones before looking back at the prizes.

Awwwwww, but it's good that you made a choice! I hope you can sell them well! I see you live in the US, so that's already a good start, because that gives you a lot of chance to sell them on here and on eBay. (For me selling to most English speaking collectors turns out into nothing, because the shipping from my country to them is way too high even before we talk about the amount the person would like to give for the figure. X_X)

Hrmmm fetishy? Because of the shape of her dress that makes you have a look underneath?

Ah, Mikan is so cute! But I rarely see her for sale...she must be pretty hard to get. Personally I want this Nekomura Iroha ITEM #70385 the most!

adorablerocket6 l. temu#2311978I own this figure too (picked it up cheap in Taiwan), and I actually kind of have grown to hate it.
I bought it because the theme and the POP illustration were so cute, but she really falls short. I think I've only kept her so that I could display her with my Nekomura Iroha ITEM #63239 , but I'm not sure I'm actually a fan her either - aside from the super cute umbrella her outfit just a bit too fetishy (is that a word?) for me.
I guess I really want Tachibana Mikan ITEM #78730 ... she's just soo expensive! (;_;)

Personally I don't hate her, but I defenitely don't agree anymore with this review I wrote 2 years ago. :P When I just got her I was quite happy because of her outfit and her being a frigure from a design of POP. But later this one ITEM #56238 was made of the exact same character and it looked so much better!

Hrmmm fetishy? Because of the shape of her dress that makes you have a look underneath?

I still plan on collecting more from Hello Kitty to Issho, so I have been keeping my Shizuku, with the idea of "I need her to complete the collection". Next to that I'm also a huge fan of POP, so I sort of want to hold on to it because of that.

Maakie8 l. temu#1031540Yes, the face is the most "off" from all the things. I especially like her clothes, that was the main reason I ordered her together with the fact that she was from a drawing from POP. The face was also a huge disappointment for me.

Maakie8 l. temu#1032130Yes, I normally also buy scaled figures, but I found this one for a steal on Mandarake, so couldn't help myself! >.<

Yes, she has more potential, for example, look at this: ITEM #56238 It is the same character in a different pose and as PVC. (Only that one doesn't have such a cute bra and skirt! TT^TT)

Yes, I want that one really badly ;A; But the loli bra and skirt is so cute eheheh

sailormoonmeow8 l. temu#1031656I know how you feel! I love the design of most prize figures, but when I get them I wish they weren't so off. I always wonder that if the figure was an extra $20 and wasn't a prize how nice the figure would be ;n; She's so cute, but has so much more potential!

Yes, she has more potential, for example, look at this: ITEM #56238 It is the same character in a different pose and as PVC. (Only that one doesn't have such a cute bra and skirt! TT^TT)
