So excited, my first 1/4!So excited, my first 1/4!

First off, this is a diary entry. Therefore this is not a review on non-Japanese goods. For all those who plan to press on the "altert"-link. Thus, I'd appreciate if you respect a diary entry as a diary entry.
Second thing, as you know me, there IS some NSFW in this post.
Third, this post is about BJD. Folks being scared off by this stuff, just close this window/tab immediately.

For all the others, I hope you'll find something likeable about this post.

Aaaaaaanyhow, it's been like half a year since the last time I did a post about my loot. Due to various reasons, time was limited, things piled up and so on and so on... While I was receiving tons of figures, (rare) merchandise and (rare) Dakimakura covers I did also wait for the day my one special order from last November would be ready to ship.

Last week finally was the grand day. Thursday I received my little (well, not really little) cutie.
For years I wanted to own (at least) one of the greater ones. As you know I've already a 1/12 and 1/6. But, I've been on the outlook for Volks Dollfies, Unoa dolls and what the great brands are called for a long time.. However, none struck me with the "MUST HAVE HER"-feeling. In a way I randomly stumbled across a Chinese manufacturer, Doll-Zone, which just released promo pictures of their newest doll, Penny (www.doll-zone.c...). Gosh, I was done for. So totally done for. Having monetary problem by that time it was quite a struggle, but well, I bit my lips and made the order in the end.

I tell you what: I don't regret a single percent of the negative interests I've had to pay the weeks after.

Actually, I was so excited about her arrival that I even made my very first unboxing video, including dressing up and some kind of a review. Although I don't really like myself talking (just mute me, hardly anyone can't stand my voice for long)).

Contains NSFW moments

Oh, for those who can't stand my video, have a few impressions of her here, embedded in my post.

Freshly unwrapped. (NSFW)

And some accesoires (i.e. the full cloth set)..

Naturally, a close up shot of my little cutie has to be included as well.

To tell the truth I am still excited. Today I even went to shop some combs to style her hair a little. (I wanted twintails, ended up with triple tails). Well, if you saw the video or if you have some kind of experience, I'd like to ask for some advice about how to keep the wig in place. That thing is giving more trouble than I'd ever would have imagined. I touch her head for posing and it pops off... (゜-゜)

Also looking for some nice doll cloth stores (preferably from Japan, USPS is so damn expensive with shipment). If someone has recommendations, feel free to leave a link in the comments.

Gosh, here I am...a man far beyond his thirties playing with dolls... Hahahaha..

Ah well, I feel like now being really addicted to a new (expensive) hobby. I feared so, but I did the step finally. No regrets. The next two orders are already made. Also I want to have a Tokyodoll (currently Riku is my favorite).

I wish you all, who made it to this line, a pleasant day.

LeviathanX (1 r. temu) #23165671Well, the price is OK... 8-10€/meter. I don't know about water, especially the sand which has a grinding effect. Would make me a bit vary especially since I have this nice body paint on her. (I assume it's sealed, so at least water"proof")
At least, I got a design pattern composed for a racing swimsuit styled one.

With water, you should only be wary of when the strings get wet, as they can start to become mouldy inside the dolls elastic channels. With sand, it would have to be REALLY coarse to damage the resin.
Yes, the companies seal face-ups and body blushing, so water shouldn't have an affect, but since blushing can come off when moving the joints too much, then it would be likely to scrape off with sand.

Aren't racing styled swimsuits a bit complicated though? Or are you thinking 'plain'?

LeviathanX (1 r. temu) #23165671Nothing which is way too complicated (for my skills - hey, I've never even touched a sewing machine before). Maybe regular clothes or maybe something mildly fancy (do you know the game character "Shantae"; I think her costume would suit her nicely) which might be easy to make.
Eventually a light summer dress?
Though, I always had the thought in the back of my head to reproduce this one nice costume my Tera main character is wearing. But, this would be quite a challenge.

Honestly speaking, I have more trouble with 'normal' and 'easy-looking' clothes than I did with the dress I linked before ^_^ but that might just be me.
The outfit looks simple enough :) hope it works.

Yay for summer dresses! :) made my girl a winter dress yesterday ^^

Not really familiar with Tera, but from what I've seen by googling, that would a huge project ^^

LeviathanX (1 r. temu) #23165671Mine is a a bit busty, so I thought using fabric which is a bit stretchy. That way it could be a better fit, even if I do the measurement incorrect XD . Lace style for sure, some regular undies should be made as well. For now the Lady is going commando .. haha.
Ah yes, the silicon cap arrived. I am positively surprised that it really works. Now I can style the hair and move her head without having her hair popping off \(^o^)/ That tip was gold!
I had twin tails (or rather triple tails), but somehow I can't reproduce the twin tails from the promo picture (the wig is strangely made). For now, open hair looks great enough for me.

Totally weird thing to say, but your girl is not really that busty comparing to most XD (my sister's got souldoll.com/sh... so yeah)
Stretchy is definitely better. My girl goes commando most of the time as well haha.

Awesome! that was fast!
Glad it's helping ^^
Unfortunately I'm no good with hair and styling, so I can't help :( Only that from the photos, it needs a good brush ^^;
But there are good tutorials that focus on doll hair on youtube

Lycra really is expensive sadly, I'll definitely want to make some swimsuits for when summer comes though (and we're going to the beach).

What type of dresses are you looking to make? The only fancy dress I've made for my girl is www.flickr.com/... but one day, I'd like to make a full Tang Dynasty inspired outfit with silk and satin and jewellery and all that (expensive project there T_T)

Undies are important ^^ unfortunately my girl is so flat that I haven't really been able to make a nice bra for her. As for lace fabric, what about the ones on rolls (like ribbon), they're not that expensive and are usually wide enough for several things. I've made a few undies and stockings like that (I could maybe make a bra/underwear top like that as well, but haven't tried yet). Never usd fishnet fabric, so that I don't know ^^;

LeviathanX (2 l. temu) #22910794True... free shipping is always great ^^
Indeed...
Yea, it depends on the fabric... I thought of swimsuit and dresses.. Of course, underwear would be nice. Lace fabric is a bit costy and so is stretch fishnet fabric, but you don't need much of it after all XD...

I thought it looked like a kid wearing their parent's clothes XD
I put my 47cm boy's clothes on my 42cm girl (which is about 1-2 cm smaller all around than your girl) and it was also to big. So I guess that question is answered ^^;

Indeed...

Haha, my handsewing is terrible, so I totally understand that ^^ cool:)
In my opinion, buying actual fabric tends to be cheaper in the long run, except if you only literately need a small piece and won't use the rest ever, or if it's an expensive fabric. (most of what I use costs less than €5 per meter, but that's over here.

Sounds reasonable. I found some nice clothes as well, but $40 + shipping... quite a number. I mean I could sew some stockings for less than €5,- . Going into a store, getting some regular stockings and cut them apart. Cheap material source :D

LeviathanX (2 l. temu) #22599471The wig (6-7") is a snug fit which, however, likes to pops off fast if you touch it. I assume it's just too slippery which could be prevented by the suggested item. I'll just order one and try it..
Haha, yes.. I was like hesitating the whole month, but oh well.. I estimated my tax returns (based on what I got back the past years) and thought to myself "screw it".

Thanks. Helped me.. Lots of sources. As for the doll, the Torso is around 13.5-14cm. Most of the sets I found seem to have some kind of stretchy material. Hence why I am a bit unsure about the fit. If someone has the torso size for a Volks DD I'd be more confident about it. I was planning to get a 1/3 next year, if all comes together nicely, so it wouldn't be waste. But, I'd like to get something fitting for now XD ... (understandable I guess).

Thinking about it... In Germany you learn how to sew in school. Well, it shouldn't be hard to operate a sewing machine. Guess I'll get one for like €150,- (entry model for amateurs) and make the clothes myself. I also did a try-out pattern, based on a tutorial for measurement, and it actually fits perfect. Woohoo... \(^O^)b (I made it in a vector graphics tool, allowing me to print it anytime). Yea, guess that's the road I'll be walking on.

Is the wig too big or too small? I'm not sure ^^;
But like others said a wig cap can help, but if you don't have one, you can use a thick/wide rubber band, it works as well ^^ This is for wigs that are mainly too big though.
Some people suggest cutting a slit in the back of the wig if it is too small, but I have no experience with that, So don't take my word for it ^^;

Mew-Lidia9 (2 l. temu) #22599148 As for clothes, I'll try to see if I can find more later, but you should be able to find some on Mandarake, Jahoo Japan Auctions, from Volks, etc. Although I'm not too sure about your dolls' measurements, so I'm not too sure what would fit (whether she's considered MSD or slim MSD).
Many people suggest etsy and Taobao for clothes as well.
DD's are around 60cm while 1/4 dolls are around 40cm. It'll be big if you try those. MDD would fit better I think (but once again I'm unsure about the measurements)
Edit: I'm giving the link to the Den of Angels wiki page which refers to websites that sell stuff for dolls. denofangels.com...
Hope you find something.
Hope I helped :)

Aw, thanks for the nice comments.
Does anyone eventually know sizes of DD outfits? Just found a couple of nice ones, but only some stated "might fit on 40cm dolls". Just wondering if it really might fit or if it will be loose fit (i.e. way too large).. (related to innerwear - matching the body part itself)

Ose_93 (2 l. temu) #22565374You can keep her wig in place using a wig cap. They are super cheap on eBay and really help to stop the wig from slipping.
Bearcat (2 l. temu) #22571699For the wig, you should get something like this www.ebay.de/itm...
6-7 or 7-8 size should fit her as her head seems to be 7 inches.

Thanks for the hint. I guess I'll order a couple of those. :)

Ose_93 (2 l. temu) #22565374
She is such an adorable thing! I also have some 1/4 BJDs and I think they are a great scale. This is an expensive new hobby, but welcome to the fold!

Thanks. Yes, she's a little sweetie... I couldn't really imagine how large she will be, so I was a bit (positively) surprised.

MC707 (2 l. temu) #22567207You sound really excited to have her, congrats. She's really really cute though her eyes look a bit sad. Before collecting figures I never thought I'd say this, but after years of watching so many amazing POTD of Dollfie dreams I really want to get one in the future.Oh yes, I still am excited XD . Currently browsing shops for outfits. Haha..

Bearcat (2 l. temu) #22571699I'm not a fan of Dollzone (purely tho for aesthetics reasons) but congrats on your little cutie :)
That's a really nice looking fullset! Thanks for sharing :)
In any case, congrats on your girl :) does she have a name yet? Or will she stay Penny? :)

Oh, due to my other interests I really found a total liking to Doll-Zone dolls. I really like their distinct look. Most of the Volks DDs around always look like Miku... I didn't want a "mainstream doll"..

Heldrik (2 l. temu) #22568049Not gonna lie, the naked body almost looks like a snuff movie victim: all the red looks like bruises, and her eyes, because of those huge irises, look like they aren't where they should be, like if the eyeballs've been gouged out.
Yet, despite that creepy look, I guess there's something kinda cute about her that I can't really explain...

The-Hurricane (2 l. temu) #22588802I'm like 99.99% sure that is an intentional design choice. She seems to have a sort of post-apocalyptic theme going on with the gas mask and her mechanic overalls and stuff.
Indeed, the overall theme for this doll was some kind of war scenario. Bruises, scars, cuts a.s.o. I really like how they did that all over her body, and in her face up. It's really something distinct from the rest. As for the eyes, I indeed took them out yesterday and repositioned them a bit since they really were a little bit off.

The-Hurricane (2 l. temu) #22588802
Also for the OP congrats! I've spent more than I wanna mention on BJD stuff recently so I totally get it. :P I'd love to see some more photos of her sometime!

Yea, just browsing the stores makes my wallet think of suicide .. hahaha . More photos, yes. Need to think of something; I am not the most creative person around ;D

Demitria (2 l. temu) #22574421DZ: fucking up face ups since 1900. I can't agree. As for my taste, I really like their distinct looks. The faceup is flawless.
