Virtual RobotVirtual Robot

I am sure some if not all have seen the virtual robot clip from vinclu.

www.youtube.com...

Ever thought about owning one?

It will be nice to have your favorite anime character/s to talk to and do simple daily task, right?

In fact it will be A LOT nicer & cooler than owning still figures!

As for promo price of 3000$, it's not crazily expensive like Sony robot QRIO or other prototypes. It's affordable! AND super KAWAII!!!!

What do you think?

Would you buy one?

:)

Also, just to be pessimistic and like ronnibun41 said, there's always the slight possibility the AI blows a fuse and goes full HAL 9000.

What can an AI do? :p

/unplug and done! :)

I'm torn on this one.

On one hand, it could be a light, even a lifeline for really lonely people (seeing as it can be considered a "disease", especially with some old people that even their own family leaves all alone, or some young "lost" ones) and they can even have their favorite character being nice to them, giving them the feeling that there at least someone, if it's virtual, that cares for them.

On the other hand, it would provide grist to the mill of those that chastise lonely people that want to stay like that, like NEETs or hikkikomori, but I guess they don't care about what people might say.

-Open the pod bay doors, HAL.
-I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

I can't help but feel that this video was rather sad. In a society where people are too busy working to actually find time for human interaction and can only find companionship in an AI software which doesn't seem too advanced... I feel like this video might have been an exaggeration (well maybe not...), yet it is sad that some people might live this kind of lifestyle. I do see this device working for them, but surely not for me.

It's neat and all, but I want to wait for that time when AI becomes much more advanced and can actually make a difference rather than looking anime and cute and stuff. Although it's nice to see that artificial intelligence is going somewhere (and pretty fast in Japan especially). There are some pretty impressive inventions already floating around, like there's already a robot that can be programmed to do a task and it is able to walk and carry things by itself! It's obviously most efficient in warehouses, but it is neat that we have already been able to create an AI which can move on it's own completely.

Yoruno (2 l. temu) #20962681Wow, Chobits. The thing that makes me cautious is how the man in the commercial feels affection towards something which is actually nothing but smart watch.I want a chobit, but I am not sure I can wait for a complex chobit in my life time.

Same goes for PlayStation 10, when they perfect it to like SAO, Accel world etc etc.. But I don't think I will live long enough to see that day... :( I am going to be dead around 51 years, I am slowly decaying and the time is ticking!

People have felt affection for way less.... "human-like" things in the past. Loneliness is a VERY serious issue for a highly social species such as humans. Many people think of something like Wilson from Cast Away as a silly goof (lol he's going cray and talking to a volleyball :V), but that kind of thing is super real. It's sad, it's borderline pitiful, but it's also a basic human need.

I personally wouldn't buy one. But I get it.

Intriguing concept. I think it would be cute to have around, but that's it. Judging from the video itself, I can't help but think this is a marketing tactic to garner the socially awkward/lonely population of the world to depend on this for consolation, and that is....quite sad. I'm not saying this is a bad thing to help these people, but in the end, it depends on the person on whether you find this acceptable or not (and I'm not saying socially acceptable--screw that, what I'm trying to say, is personally acceptable for yourself as to how you may view owning this type of thing). BUT, looking at this in the positive light, it's nice to have around without any deep thought, just for pure enjoyment.

TLDR; It's not bad. I'd like one of my favorite idols, but not of that generic Hatsune Miku-looking character lol.
