iLiking "Bad" Anime/Mangan/a

I can't help but feel a little bothered when plenty of people talk about how bad something I'm into is. As a very analytical person who frequently engages myself in political and cognitive matters, I sometimes feel like it's an embarrassment when I tell people I'm into relatively obscure and unpopular things.
Since this is a Japanese media related website, I will only use manga or anime as an example.

I really love Queen's Blade despite it's bad reputation. I don't know what people are saying about it having no plot. It has a decent plot and although it's nothing amazing and often times loosely woven together, it's still there. The characters are interesting enough for me to continue watching it despite the fact I am really not an ecchi fan at all. I'm actually pretty conservative on a lot of levels, especially in terms of sexuality.

I've also recently gotten into another unpopular anime called Princess Lover!. This is an ecchi as well and I personally find it relaxing to watch and pretty humorous at times.

Does anyone else even like this show?

For a manga example, I absolutely love and am obsessed with Dragon Half. I rarely see anyone else into this series. I've read the entire manga, watched the anime probably over four times, and have collected various rare and out of print media of the franchise. I have a super rare PC Engine game along with the extremely rare official soundtrack for the two episode OVA. It's a humorous manga with wit and really unique art, in my opinion. A great manga for people really into video games, especially RPGs.

Do you know these characters even exist?

I don't know about Dragon Half's reputation but I do know Queen's Blade has the worst reputation and Princess Lover! is generally called bad by a lot of people on MyAnimeList.

It makes me feel kind of bad about myself that I like something that a lot of people generally do not like. I can't seem to help it either. I know I shouldn't care but I do and even if I don't consciously think about it, it's still there in the back of my head.

Just the word "bad" or "awful" can really make me self conscience about what I'm into. It doesn't help either that I'm a straight girl who honestly just loves certain franchises with ecchi in it. That means that a great majority of the fans are males who would much rather fap than pay attention to the other details of the series, which I'm sure is the intention of these shows in the first place. But then that makes it difficult for me to find other people who like it for the reasons I do and it further presses on the fact I just feel bad about liking it in the first place... Because it's "bad" and that you shouldn't watch or read "bad" things...

So tell me, do YOU ever feel this way?
Are you into something obscure, unpopular, and relatively negatively received by people? (It has to be something people think is "bad", not just because it's obscure. That's different.)
Do you feel like feedback from others makes it difficult for you to enjoy certain anime or manga?

Are you into something a lot of people generally think is "bad"?

So, I don't really like it when people being too analytical about something without even finish reading/watching something until the end. I'm sure that every ecchi anime/manga has another potential that makes it unique from the others. If it has a good plot/art/comedy or some certain uniqueness I don't mind take a look at it or even become a fan!I understand that most people has their own taste, but please don't think highly of yourself and respect others..:(

Well I'm often judged for liking Queen's Blade in a similar way. LOL
A lot of people think the show has no plot when it actually does. It's also pretty unique in its own way despite being hardcore ecchi.
haha even among my anime/manga-loving friends I'm considered as an outcast for liking some "ecchi" anime/manga(I'm straight by the way)^_^. They love anime/manga with deep and complicated story as much as I do. But when I showed them negima manga they quickly judge for being more "otaku" like..(In the means of disgusting "moe"/bishoujo lover and such...T_T)...despite having a lot of fanservice, I think it has the best action scene that I've ever seen in shounen manga. Also, Ken Akamatsu's illustration is very detailed and neat in my opinion. I recommend one of them to take a look since she's drawing combat shonen manga..and she said "well, maybe I'll have a quick look at home" with bewildered expression. The same things happen when they found out about me liking strike witches and K-on u_u

I enjoyed the hell out of Speedgrapher (dat ending). Ended up liking Witchblade (pretty much the same show, just replace euphorics with sexy-armored chicks XD)
Admittedly I am judgemental with the local anime scene (nothing but teen narutards and yaoi fangirls) I keep my penchant for anime on the downlow now sadly. In the big city, plenty of adults were pretty into it. Wish the kids around here would more mature about it. Having a 24 year old hipster-looking adult among 16 year old, screechy kids speaking pidgeon Japanese would look a little weird. :P

Least the local comic community welcomed me with open arms, gettin our Zombie on. LoL.
Yep. And it's not even popular opinion, it's more my closer friend's opinions that I value highly saying something is really "bad" that makes me feel awful. Someone I really respect hates Mirai Nikki with this passion and while most people like it her opinion means more to me, so I just feel poopy about it. It's not any great writing or groundbreaking material but hey, it's entertaining.

Lately (because of really pretty figures lmfao) I've been watching harems/ecchi shows too that people consider to be shit-tier and I like... legitimately enjoyed some of them when I'm also a straight girl and more in it for the fun of the characters. So I understand that LOL. I LOVED Mayo Chiki and Boku wa Tomodachi but none of my friends besides like one know about them. I adored the humor in both of them and people on MAL just tore them apart which made me really sad. LIKE DUDE.... IT'S NOT SUPPOSE TO BE DEEP OR PHILOSOPHICAL JUST ENJOY THE FUN OF IT.

I've been thinking about watching QB (again, because of nice figures I've seen on MFC LMFAO GOD) so I think I'll actually give it a shot now!
I used to feel awkward when I mentioned an anime that is viewed negatively, but now, I really don't care. I'm going to like what I like and no one's going to stop me. I'll even rub it in their face if they make such a big deal about it.

"Bad" is completely subjective and it's inevitable that there will be people who like or dislike any particular thing.

I adore Type-Moon and Key, and while both have large fanbases, there are plenty of people who consider one or both to be bad.

Regardless, an anime/game is intended to be a source of entertainment. Even the most unpopular show will have a fan or two. If you find it entertaining, then it's served its purpose for you, whether it's widely considered good or bad. If you feel embarrassed of what you like, then fair enough, let it remain a guilty pleasure. There's not a lot you can do about how it's perceived by the masses.

Not into something people call bad, but people call "WHAT?". I'm a true Seinen fan. Not the ecchi stuff or some mainstream like Gantz, but those reeeaally Seinen. And they don't have any goods to collect, sheeesh...

Thanks for all the comments guys! =) It really helped me feel better about my situation.
I've like many bad anime and manga that no one else did. I actually liked Princess Lover enough too. Some parts were corny but I enjoyed when the characters tried to get to know the main character more. There is usually one anime a season I consider a guilty pleasure even though I know it's not very good overall (High School DxD was a good example this season and Samurai Girls another...and etc..). I like them quite a bit and find them entertaining though they aren't great. Another one I was crazy for was Sakura Diaries the Ova....loved it...though the Manga turned into a borderline hentai shlock fest.
