I can't help but feel a little bothered when plenty of people talk about how bad something I'm into is. As a very analytical person who frequently engages myself in political and cognitive matters, I sometimes feel like it's an embarrassment when I tell people I'm into relatively obscure and unpopular things.
Since this is a Japanese media related website, I will only use manga or anime as an example.
I really love Queen's Blade despite it's bad reputation. I don't know what people are saying about it having no plot. It has a decent plot and although it's nothing amazing and often times loosely woven together, it's still there. The characters are interesting enough for me to continue watching it despite the fact I am really not an ecchi fan at all. I'm actually pretty conservative on a lot of levels, especially in terms of sexuality.
I've also recently gotten into another unpopular anime called Princess Lover!. This is an ecchi as well and I personally find it relaxing to watch and pretty humorous at times.

Does anyone else even like this show?
For a manga example, I absolutely love and am obsessed with Dragon Half. I rarely see anyone else into this series. I've read the entire manga, watched the anime probably over four times, and have collected various rare and out of print media of the franchise. I have a super rare PC Engine game along with the extremely rare official soundtrack for the two episode OVA. It's a humorous manga with wit and really unique art, in my opinion. A great manga for people really into video games, especially RPGs.

Do you know these characters even exist?
I don't know about Dragon Half's reputation but I do know Queen's Blade has the worst reputation and Princess Lover! is generally called bad by a lot of people on MyAnimeList.
It makes me feel kind of bad about myself that I like something that a lot of people generally do not like. I can't seem to help it either. I know I shouldn't care but I do and even if I don't consciously think about it, it's still there in the back of my head.
Just the word "bad" or "awful" can really make me self conscience about what I'm into. It doesn't help either that I'm a straight girl who honestly just loves certain franchises with ecchi in it. That means that a great majority of the fans are males who would much rather fap than pay attention to the other details of the series, which I'm sure is the intention of these shows in the first place. But then that makes it difficult for me to find other people who like it for the reasons I do and it further presses on the fact I just feel bad about liking it in the first place... Because it's "bad" and that you shouldn't watch or read "bad" things...
So tell me, do YOU ever feel this way?
Are you into something obscure, unpopular, and relatively negatively received by people? (It has to be something people think is "bad", not just because it's obscure. That's different.)
Do you feel like feedback from others makes it difficult for you to enjoy certain anime or manga?
